Description This is a fall view of the National Wildlife Refuge on the edge of town where many types of waterfowl stop over to feed and rest on the marsh on their way south in the fall and on their way north in the spring. It's approximately 2 miles long and perhaps half a mile wide. It was gorgeous this fall!

It is one of my favorite places on the planet! This fall I was able to sit on the ground at the far southern end (because I was unable to stand) for an hour and a half and watch/photograph the wild Trumpeter Swans on their stop over - such a marvelous sight! They are not habituated to humans and spend most of their time out in the middle which is out of photo range unless you have a zoom. Taken with a Canon SX20-IS, 20 power zoom, on a tripod.

Thanks so much Andy! It was marvelous watching them. I had not recovered enough to stand for more then a couple of minutes, so I sat on a short incline, with my tripod balanced on one leg because the ground was not level and there was only about 18 inches to the water. Since my balance was still bad and the highway was only a few feet from the water, I had to scoot down the incline on my backside because I would have tipped over and fallen in the water, if I had tried to walk down! Oh the things we do to take photos, but I had been dying to get out since I was cooped up all summer!

I am impressed by this feat. Most people would not go to such lengths to get a photo.

The only comparable act I did to this was when I got on a slope over a cliff to get a photo in Yosemite and someone else held my feet so I would not slide down the abyss.
