wow, this is too cool. How much area up there is grass during the summers? is it just along the shoreline or does it go farther north?

Thanks so much Dave! It all depends on the area......the flora here in Alaska changes from region to region, but there are some type of wild grasses in most places that I have been too. I now live in what's called southcentral Alaska, and we have a tall wild grass that takes over, after wildfires. It, and other wild grasses are pretty prevelent, until you get to the higher elevations on the mountains....but you have to be in the really "alpine" tops of the mountians, before the grasses disappear......and you have only very low growing little alpine plants. On the tundra where I lioved for two years....years ago......most of the plants grow VERY low to the ground....different kinds of berries, mosses, etc.....but there were some taller grasses by the river. I've been up on the Yukon river years ago and there were tall grasses there too.

I had the thought that Alaska was 90% snow all the time, now I know what it is really like up there. Well how about the weather? Are the summers warm? I know the winter is cold for sure.

Summers are in general "coolish"....highs around 65 - 70.....50's on a cloudy day. BUT......we have had some VERY warm summers in the last 10 years, due to global warming, which is thawing the permafrost (permanently frozen earth, under the surface several feet). At the end of May this year, we had a day when it was in the 90's! Last summer, we had a month of 80's and 90's and it was awful because almost no one has airconditioning in the homes! We have lots of flowers and yes people have gardens....about a 3 month growing season....I grew vegetables for severals years when I was raising the kids.......broccoli, cauliflower, peas, potatos, lettuce, cabbage, and grew tomatoes and cucumbers in a small greenhouse I had. Soooo yes...we have summers....they are just cooler than yours....and shorter!

Thanks so much! I'm really happy you think so! I have spent literally 8 yrs or so trying to get better and better with this program.....I really love what can be done with it, and as a nature/scenic lover....with some of the world's best scenery here in Alaska.....I am compelled to try to re-create many things I have seen and enjoyed over the years. Your comment made my day! Hugzzzzzzzzz!

Ohhhh to be able to live out in "the bush" again, where you can walk around in scenes like this....as my youngest daughter said years ago...."It's like living in a picture postcard"! I am so fortunate to have experienced this. Somewhere buried in my slides, is a picture of a trappers' cabin I stayed in years ago - grass roof and logs chinked with mud - accessable only by float plane! The pilot dropped us off for a week, when my daughter was only 6 weeks old. It was one of the best experiences of my life!!

That is just plumb gorgeous! The cabin is so realistic...I've seen similar ones out in the country here in VA. I love the way the sky is reflected in the water; I've actually seen a very similar effect, but didn't have the camera on hand to record it. Overall, you've once again worked some miracles with Bryce!

The water looks like soap... And, you created the house... I tried Bryce before, and I know how hard it is. So... Good job!

Awwww...thanks! Yep....was trying for the almost "oil sheen" reflection to the water....just something I wanted to do....and yes....Bryce is NOT easy to master! I really appreciate your kind comment!

Thanks very much....I really appreciate it! I have spent 9 yrs trying to master Bryce.....and you are right....it can be VERY difficult! There's still a lot I don't know...it's a complex program....but I love what can be done with it....if enough hours are put into it. I have about 175 hours in this one!
