For the most part, it was because Cadance is an alicorn. So that's how that works. It's not really rocket science, here. But again, her haters need to calm down and re-evaluate this show. Not to mention, they need to stop taking it so seriously.

In my headcanon, alicorn-genes do not inherit and my Twilight Sparkle next gen will be a pegasus, although Twilight is an alicorn. Cadance wasn't an alicorn from birth, she was born as a pegasus. Maybe the alicorn-gen will be inherited, if Celestia or Luna gets a child, because in many headcanons, they're originally from a remote land beyong Equestria, were alicorns are naturally born (maybe they're even different type of ponies, like beyond Equestria, there isn't ponies, but griffons, dragons, yaks, hippogriffs, etc.), so Flurry Heart is the first born alicorn-pony in Equestria. I really have no idea, how she was born as an alicorn, but we can also take your idea.

I think she became my favorite character out of the fact I feel like I can relate to her. I have no problem admitting I can be a bitch at times 
While she is my favorite character of the show, I can understand and see why people don't like her. I know alot of people aren't too big a fan or prideful, cocky, characters and prefer more humble, down-to-earth ones (in most cases I've seen? I could be wrong though 
But even while she's my favorite, even I don't understand why people would worship her. She's far from perfect. Though I don't see why someone would worship ANY character
