I had this uploaded on a different account, but since this character has recently become central to a different project, I decided to shift him over here. The other copy of the picture has been removed.

This is Mr. Fenix, who I can't describe without using Pratchett and Gaiman's words--"flash bastard." He's an impundulu (an African thunderbird) and in day-to-day business he works as a sort of major-domo for a necromancer named Farid Azhul, overseeing transfers of sensitive property and making sure no one gets out of line. Despite often being found in human form, he's more bird than man in many ways; he considers his clothes his plumage, and as a male bird, he needs to peacock like a mofo. Raw silk suits in eye-catching colors are his default, but he's been known to up the ante when the need arises.

As a magical being in a modern nonmagical world (ours), Mr. Fenix is immensely amused by cliches and the human perception of the magical. He constantly watches his other magical creatures for signs of cliche behavior--god help the vampire who wears leather or frilly shirts around him--and likes to think that, if he were in a story, he would at least be in a good story.

Alas, when he does finally wind up in a story, it's one of the oldest in the book. Boy meets girl, girl saves boy's life after boy got stabbed in an ill-timed political move, girl accidentally acquires magical powers thanks to the lifesaving, boy is pissed off by the fact that as a witch's familiar the woman who saved his life technically owns him and automatically feeds off his power, boy and girl fight like cats in a sack, Mythmakers attempt to bump them both off for interfering with plans, and girl's Roomba comes to life. *sniff* Tale as old as time.
