Jenna Gloster was not expecting to have a child so soon in life, and she definitely wasn't expecting a child as unique as Tanner. She learned she was pregnant when she got sick on the job, in a 3-star kitchen in Kalos. Through a lengthy process of doctor's visits, Jenna was able to trace the pregnancy back to a one night stand with a man named Louis Mullins. Initially, the pair tried their hands at dating, cultivating some kind of serious relationship: but it quickly became apparent that they were more comfortable being friends rather than lovers. Their odd friendship was the base of Tanner's home-life: He bounced between parents and was taught that even though they weren't in love, and no matter who they loved, Tanner would always be their number 1.

School was a little different. Tanner's laissez-faire attitude didn't slide in the classroom, and everything they tried to teach him didn't seem worth learning in Tanner's eyes. He was a typical class clown: getting into trouble, acting out in class, coasting by on C's and D's. Tanner's parents tried to get their son on the right track, but had very little success, and they were too busy with their own personal lives to crack down on Tanner's. They had an easier time teaching him their own crafts: For Jenna, it was cooking. For Louis, it was cars and engines. Everything else: from math, to language, to speech, to sports: Tanner seemed to have little interest in any of these fields, and much preferred the company of his parents. And video games. He was very proud of his status at school as, "that one kid with the PS2 I can go over and play with,"

High school was a totally different monster all together. Tanner was well liked for probably all the wrong reasons: mostly because he was at every party scene imaginable, and as a drunk he was a wild card. The Noibat was now a Noivern, and seemed to be growing up too fast. Senior year, he was determined to set a new record: it would be his final stand. He didn't even think about how this could come back to bite him later. The dragon planned on crowning his last days as a greenhorn adult with a concert, where he blacked out and screamed so hard he thought he coughed up a lung. His friends managed to get him home safe and sound, or so they figured. The next morning, Tanner realized something was wrong when his mother was practically yelling in his ear to wake up, but he could only hear the faintest whisper. Jenna and Tanner rushed off to the hospital where he was officially diagnosed as hard of hearing. The cause was traced to his newly acquired move: Boomburst, which he miused at the concert the night before. Tanner was given some hearing aids, and the family was left to their own devices on how to handle the dragon's new situation.

Tanner felt trapped in a strange, uncanny valley: life was back to normal, but clearly different in subtle ways...it was harder to keep up with busy city life. Even the night life was getting a little to fast paced for the Noivern. Everyone just talked so fast. Too many voices, all at once...on the flip side, he wasn't able to integrate in the small, Deaf community Lumoise had like he wanted to, not only because he was new to this, but because he still had some hearing left in him. He felt as if he was walking along the top of a wall, and jumping down on either side would cut him off from the other. Tanner was confused, and more noticeably, alone. Despite his strange circumstances, Tanner returned to school to finish up his senior year, but decided to opt out of college and go straight to work instead. He bounced around from job to job for a while, until he wormed his way into the "Black and Blue Bar and Grill." He mostly worked as the bartender, but built up enough trust with the owner to start working as a cook on the side. Once even that became routine, Tanner lapsed into revelry.

It was in passing conversation with his boss that Tanner learned about Raccolto one night. Once a sailor, the man spun a tail about a homey set of islands that could use a good cook like Tanner to spice things up.
And surprisingly, Tanner heartily agreed.

Maybe it was on a whim, or maybe it was because of this creeping sense of loneliness he couldn't fight anymore. He laid off the partying just long enough to stash some money away for an apartment (it didn't have to be fancy, just livable), and he already got in contact with some local bars for interviews. Apparently the "SmileyFace" was looking for some extra hands, and if he was willing, he could start as soon as he moved in. The Noivern's parents could hardly object: It was the most motivated they had seen Tanner be in years. Tanner promised to call often, and set out in the early morning with the family dog.

In her prime she used to be quite the showdog and has more than a few ribbons under her belt. She's also completely spoiled on Tanner's cooking, and the Noivern has made it a point to spoil her with fresh meat. She's also not technically supposed to be in his apartment at the moment, but luckily she's so tame that no one's batted an eye at her presence.
