Description ...or not.

This is a Vásárcsarnok in Budapest, otherwise known as 'The Great Market Hall' or Hungarian "Nagycsarnok", on Fővám Tér in the 9th district. It's the largest indoor market in Budapest, just up the road from where I was staying.

My mother bought some chili, and I took many, many photos... I should be uploading one or two, I think, as the place was pretty good to me and my fisheye lens.

Not sure if this is the right category...

I think this view of the Hungarian market
Nobly captures the mystery of the exhibits.

What brings my attention is the specific
Open lighting from the
Natural skylight, touching the tops of
Dear vendors and shops
Eager to please customers.
Rather a open view
Leading to wonders inside the supermarket
Amazes me with such detail caught in film.
Never thought such a place in Hungary
Deserves a fantastical theme.

I really love how you captured everything in this photograph, all the produce, and such a happy memory i bet ^w^ photography can be difficult at times, sometimes even the lens just does not co-operate X3 The marketplace looks amazing! Excellent photography skills           and if you could not tell, I love your work already ;D

I know it's older post but it is so cool . Love the colours, and how the perspective is portrayed. Also a good thing is that the background and the foreground are really distinct. The compostion is good, as make the viewer eye stay in the picture.

Only thing I would change is that I would make people from the middle go a little higher so there's whole body were blocking the light and make it more visible focal point. But this is just my thing
Again Love it

Thank you very much for your comment! I can understand where you're coming from there, though I would say such spontaneity is often difficult to structure accordingly.

Hello! Here it is, as promised.

I've never been to Budapest. But I love what you've done with the fisheye lens. The shadows around the market contrast with the light, creating a Tunnel Vision effect, giving us the illusion of falling down the rabbit hole, so to speak. This trick of the light reflects off of the other shops and their wares, creating a cornucopia of colors in varying hues for the viewer to soak in. I really like the light in the background and the two people walking down the line. It's as if they are journeying through the 'rabbit hole' and are coming to the bottom, about to discover the mysteries of Wonderland, to use another metaphor. I can only imagine what it must have been like being there.

It isn't just these subtle techniques that speak to me. Images like this remind me of my own trips to areas like Puerto Rico, Mexico, the Virgin Islands, and other areas. I've been in a lot of areas where there are markets, shops, and a sort of 'merchant' atmosphere throughout. Going to those places always came with good memories of lying on the beach, swimming, climbing, hot springs, wild life, and everything good. Images like this make me feel nostalgic. Thank you for that.

I really like this. Nice job. Welcome to The List.

Hey!

Thank you so much for spending the time, effort and more in providing a constructive comment! It's much appreciated.

The lighting is great in producing a Tunnel Vision effect. I can see where you're coming from there.

Ooh, that's really awesome! What was your favourite place, out of all those you visited?

I wouldn't doubt that there are many markets, shops and "merchant" atmospheres throughout in those places.

Thank you!

GourmetNinja In reply to 3wyl [2017-06-27 06:37:16 +0000 UTC]

My favorite places? I can't pick a true favorite, but some of them would be Barbados for the rum factories and sugarcane, Puerto Rico for its beaches, and while I can't remember which one it was, either Dominica or Saint Lucia for the hot springs! Also, I really enjoyed Aruba. I basically lied on the beach and drank pina coladas all day.

You're correct! These places DO have a lot of markets that sell some beautiful goods. Just watch out for the ones in Jamaica! The shopkeepers there are a little bit too interested in a good deal, if you know what I mean. Ahh, good times...

This may surprise you, but having been there, some of the dock towns in Alaska have this setting. They're set up as ports on the sea where tourists and natives shop and dine, so they have a lot of little stores, shops, and restaurants. Of course, that's more of a port town than a marketplace, but it's still along the same lines.

Where else have you been, if I may ask?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to GourmetNinja [2017-07-07 23:34:52 +0000 UTC]

I can understand it's difficult to pick a true favorite. On some level, I imagine one can't really compare the countries or experiences with one another, especially if they're very different. It all sounds very relaxing, either way!

Ah, those interested in a good deal appear in many places. It's a popular tactic for those that try to make a living.

That's pretty awesome! The Alaskan port town/marketplace sounds like something you'd have to be there to fully appreciate.

I have been to many places, but sadly only remember a few snippets from each place. I've visited Germany, France, Spain, Malta, Belgium, Hungary, Netherlands, and took a cruise down to Morocco - all close places when you're living in England. Further away, I've been to Australia, United States (now living here), China, Japan, Taiwan, Singapore.

This looks fantastic! I love how you used a fish eye lens in this photo, I think it really emphasizes the details and the size of the market. The bright light in the background is a nice touch as well.

It seems more subtle than the usual fisheye photo. I can see the distortion, of course, but the image still manages to feel natural.

Beautiful.

You raise an interesting point there. I suppose it helps that I stood in the middle, and the fisheye isn't too intense.

Thank you!

Nice shot, great framing: lov teh positioning of the people so central in the picture.
the vignetting is a bit to much for my taste: it dominates the picture and gives it a 'dark' tone while the content matter is colourful and 'bright'  instead...if that makes sense?

hehe yeah ^^ and every country has its own specialties and random little gizmos ^^
I wish they had markets like those around here :T though other people might think markets in my country are interesting, I think not xD

3wyl In reply to Nyamesiss [2014-03-09 12:39:24 +0000 UTC]

That's very true! It's really quite interesting to see all the different kinds in their respective countries.

Hmm.. I guess you could always go to those markets outside of your country?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyamesiss In reply to 3wyl [2014-03-09 12:42:21 +0000 UTC]

yes of course 8D
this market of yours reminds me very much of the markets in Barcelona and Portugal
though in turkey they also have somewhat similar tho this, but more grande I think ^^ (I like their building styles, if you ever go to Istanbul you can check out the markets and bazaars its really big and cool ^^)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Nyamesiss [2014-03-09 18:08:04 +0000 UTC]

I think a lot of European markets are similar in many ways, but it does depend! I'm sure they're quite individual.

Ah, I see.

I would check out those things if I went abroad! Not sure I'll ever go to Istanbul, but it's definitely worth thinking about.

There are many great things generally, though.. all around you, if you know where to look.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyamesiss In reply to 3wyl [2014-03-10 13:46:35 +0000 UTC]

yeap

hmm about the things around you.. yeah that's true, but you never look as good as you do in different countries
That's why I;ve been wanting to go into photography for a bit

I've done a couple of walks through the city (I moved for my study earlier this study year but never had time to explore)
to make some pictures and explore ^^''
I must say you see a lot more when you keep a camera at hand ahaha its fun to play tourist in your own country..
but well I look foreign so people instantly speak English to me .3.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

3wyl In reply to Nyamesiss [2014-03-11 18:47:16 +0000 UTC]

I suppose there is that as well. There is something about being in a different country and viewing their things, rather than the things in your home country.

That's pretty cool! What is preventing you from jumping into photography?

Oh right, I see.

No time to explore because of your studies? =/

True, true! One has an excuse to shoot plenty when one has a camera.

Huh. Is that a good thing?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Nyamesiss In reply to 3wyl [2014-03-11 20:48:22 +0000 UTC]

yeah ^^ different stuff! always fun :3

time >.>
yeah school is eating away at me its so stressy lately OTL uf

hmm I don't know if its a good thing or a bad thing, but I mostly just talk back in my native language so they'll know I'm not some touristy person =3=
heh~ too bad I'm ill now :T otherwise I'd be strolling around town x3
