A LOTTA LOCOMOTION THAT'S,WHAT WE NEED IF WE ARE EVER GONNA,
GET UP SPEED
Hey eveyone, that was 'A LOTTA LOCOMOTION' from STARLIGHT EXPRESS.
First we have Pearl a brand new girl, an observation car who is first class. She also loves Rusty the steam train.
Second is Dinah the dining car, she's willing to listen to one's problems and make a hot meal for them, she is currently single now.
Third is Belle the sleeping car, not in the show anymore but is still remembered. She's very motherly and is willing to help anyone no matter what their problem is and even if it is during herr nap.
Fourth is Buffy the buffet car, she doesn't drink, and makes cheap snacks on the road for hunger customers .
Last is Ashley the ex-smoking car, traded smoking for gum which is doing a lot of good for her health.
It took me forever to do this and I just made it yesterday. First, I had to find the right pictures of the coaches after 'A LOTTA LOCOMOTION', second I had to pick what costumed they would wear for the pose, third I had to find refernces of Belle (SHE'S HARD TO FIND!!!!), fourth had to sketch them, fifth when I final was done I had to darken them up 5 times because my printer is sensitive. Well still hope you enjoy. I do not own Starlight Express.

Thank you, I know I never got to see the show (I blame advertisement)but when I read the script to Stex and her song I thought it was a total lost to get rid of Belle. She was such a mother figure to everyone,she helped Rusty in his first race (I really wish they kept Belle in for that because Rusty actually raced before Poppa had to race and give him a place). Sorry for the rant it's just Belle was an amazing character and thanks again for the comment.

I was very fortunate to see the original version of the show as a child. With Belle in the show and CB having the bigger role he did, the story line made much more sense. Plus, Belle brought so much heart and soul, and her solo is hysterical, albeit quite sad. When they cut Belle and reduced CB's story, the overall story became even more nonsensical. Yeah, the show was darker in its original form, but apparently, I didn't notice that at 8 years old. I just saw a musical on roller skates and thought it was the coolest thing ever. LOL So any reason to change the story and make it more "family-oriented" is lost on me. I remember my roommate at university playing me the revival recording, and I think I blurted out, "What is this crap? This isn't Starlight Express!"

I envy you I would have loved to see Belle's song and the whole orignial verison. Yeah after I read the revival it really didn't make much sense to get rid of CB or Belle they really added to the story.I did read there were some dark themes in the original story I am so thankful they got rid of Greaseball hurting Dinah, but I really wish at the end they wouldn't get back together I thought that was horrible (I rather have her with CB after a good 3-5 years after the race). I still kinda don't get how the show was not popular the actors and actress were on skates doing actually stunts before the whole 3-D thing that deserves a lot of credit to do that! The only thing I like about the revival were the songs 'Crazy' and 'Starlight Express:Remix', I really don't think the show needed to get rid of CB, Belle,(Krump in the tours), and most of their songs I thought they were fine the way they were.

I wish I remembered more of it. haha I remember I loved Dinah and Belle, I didn't care much for Pearl, and the racing was great! I'm not sure how much had already been changed by the time I saw it. I ship DinahxGreaseball (don't ask me why, I just do), so I'm okay with the ending; CB is just a little too mentally unstable & obsessive for me to ship with anyone. LOL But he made a great villain. Yeah, talk about actors needing to be a quadruple threat!

Yeah I think Dinah, Belle,(Rusty,Dustin,Buffy,Poppa,CB and Joule) are my favorites. I know that the show is going to South Africa soon here's the link: [link] , I know the actors had to work really hard to be on skates and sing at the same time that must have been tourture or something.

Ah this is the newest version that has the character "Duvet" - gotta roll my eyes at that change, too. I don't know why they keep changing a good thing. haha I also preferred the much less stylized make-up of the early days, when the trains looked much more human rather than palettes for ridiculous make-up jobs. But I tend to be a traditionalist.

Yeah, Duvet will be in that production. I don't know why thet keep changing the show either. I', a traditionalist also, I wish they kept the original coaches' outfits also the coaches actually look like train coaches now they just look human.

I agree, the original costumes were much better.
And I will NEVER understand why the Rockies were changed to the Hip Hoppers. *scratches head* The "Rockies" were such a great joke of a name for the box cars. What does Hip Hopping have to do with trains?? *sighs*

I know, I don't really like the Hip Hoppers that much either, There's only one hopper and his name is Dustin!

Pearl is pretty -- as is Ashley. I like Pearl's hair. I like how Belle is in the middle and not just tacked on at the end. Nice job on Belle's curls too. You've also captured some personalities and moods in the faces and poses too -- I like how it's not just a row of neutral expressions in identical positions. Even the way the shoulders are held are different from coach to coach.
I like your description -- such as with Ashley using gum or Dinah being single. (Oh, what will she do now-- oh, hi, CB!) I like that you made a reference to Buffy's snack lyrics from the New London show (and Belle taking a nap).

Thanks, I kinda did Ashley's lips the style of Batman the Animated series style [link] , [link] , and [link] . I put Belle in the middle because it kinda feels right to do so you know, and I got the idea for her curls from this pic [link] , I think I'll use this hair style for Belle for now on. Yeah, I wanted the girls to be who they are, and I had to look at a ton of pics to get the angles and etc right. Yeah, Ashley traded being a smoking car to a candy(really gum)car (do they have candy cars?), yes Dinah is single for now (yeah I think after a while the thier friendship will 'blossom'), yeah I did pick up the snack ideas from the lyrics, yeah believe Belle has a lot of naptimes being a sleeper and stuff. Glad you liked it.

Yeah, they have snack cars which sell candy, but Ash could be a lounge car that serves sweets (lounges are fancier than snackers).

Thanks, I always liked how they drew the lips for the series (I still practing with drawing lips), thanks for the info, and I do think Ash would change to a lounge car, I read about them and some even have pianos (I just love pianos, but it's been awhile since I played my keyboard.)!!
