Description
The diamond-encrusted streets of the big city
Where the diamonds are really raindrops
Resting on the well-kept pavement
Where the shiny cars zoom by and the drivers are flippant

The apartment or house where I can look out the window
And see a glittering and breathtaking skyline and
The lights from the tall office buildings in the distance from my home
Where the bed is soft and I can fall asleep quickly

To walk along the streets, anticipation in my veins
Glancing at the screen of a phone that is too large
Re-reading endlessly the words he has written for me
Because that is ultimately who I am going to meet

I long for the man with the sweetest smile
Whose lips curl up and his eyes turn to mismatched crescents
With ruffled hair and skin, tanned "just right"
And a voice that rivals the angels about which he never sings

He carries himself with confidence and grace
Sarcasm and love, intelligence on long legs
Fond of adlibs and his best friends
Fiercely protective of those he has fought to stay with

Most importantly I long for the mind his can confide in
And to be his strength, if and when he needs it
For once, to be someone's moral support, their iron beam
That must be the next best thing

So maybe, someday I will have that life if I work hard
But for now I'll continue to battle the world alone
And until I build my hopes, dreams and longings
I guess that my meager and mundane current life will have to do.
