If you're wondering what Twilight Velvet is doing there, I'm like 900% sure she's actually just G1 Twilight.Which would also make sense considering Faust thought Firefly would be RD's mom, and Firefly and G1 Twilight were around the same age in the original cartoon....
Also, in the original cartoons, Surprise was a lot younger than the others... She's now a Wonderbolt in FiM (unnamed in the show, but she's called Surprise in the merch now!) So I think she'd be Pinkie's cousin or something.
Maybe G1 Applejack is actually G4 Applejack's mom and G4 AJ was named after her because of how much they looked alike? :b
Posey could be Fluttershy's mom, which would kind of make sense considering Flutter's weak flying and connection to nature (half Earth pony?).
Sparkler would probably be Rarity's aunt or something.
Anyway, I just wanted to draw them all in my own style. I had a lot of fun with this :3

Well, I guess Posey should be Fluttershy's aunt or some other relative now that her parents have been revealed in season 6. I'm actually looking for FiMxG1 fanfics, where G1 was the past of Twilight Velvet.

Particularly now that we have a G4 version of Lord Tirek, it would be easy enough to "import" the G1 stories into the G4 universe, even if they would be "fictional" in-universe, written by Twilight Velvet using her old friends and bits of Equestrian lore to base her stories around.
As for the "real" characters in the G4-verse, here's my take:
* Twilight Velvet - Twilight Sparkle and Shining Armor's mom, writer and editor of literature on the side while her natural talent is "constellation building" (i.e. arranging the stars in the night sky - a talent requiring a fairly high level of magic skill and helps explain why her kids are so powerful 
* Firefly - Rainbow Dash's dead/estranged mom.
* Surprise - Pinkie's older biological cousin (one of her parents ran away from the rock farming lifestyle with a pegasus, so that parent got disowned by Pinkie's family and Pinkie doesn't know of the relation) who was raised as a pegasus and eventually joined the Wonderbolts. Has a few "family resemblance" traits to Pinkie, although not nearly as zany/silly as Pinkie is.
* Applejack - One of Granny Smith's daughters and the mom of Big Mac, the more familiar Applejack and Apple Bloom; she and her husband are now dead. The younger Applejack was named as such because of the close resemblance in appearance.
* Posey - Fluttershy's biological mom. She died while Fluttershy was very young and Fluttershy's father rejected his weak-flying "half-breed" daughter, leaving her virtually an orphan from that point onward.
* Sparkler - Rarity and Sweetie Belle's aunt. Like Rarity herself, doesn't think much of Rarity's parents and pretty much estranged herself from them first chance she got. Unfortunately, that estrangement also means she won't make contact with her now-famous niece due to the "taint" of her biological parents.

Correction when Lauren was making it Hasbro told her they no longer had the right so Posey got wings and a new name and mark Surprise lost her wings got a different mark and color Firefly's color changed and so did her mark slightly Twilight Mark and coat and some of her name changed (Sparkle was just added) Sparkler's name and color changed and her mark was reduced from 7 diamonds to 3 and Applejack got to keep her name with some minor changes because they still have the rights to her and spike.

I can definitely see the similarities. Whether or not these relationships are officially canon matters little to me. In my mind, this IS canon! Nicely done!

It does makes a lot of sense that the G1 Ponies would be related in various ways to the Mane 6 we now know from the obvious similarities. I actually would LOVE if they ever brought in Firefly at some point where you'd find out that RD's competitive side came directly from her mom while her dad could have passed down his loyalty attribute down to her.

They did she is WAY in the past before RD is ever born they mane 6 are just altered version of them because hasbro lost all the rights to the old ones but for Applejack and Spike

That's one thing I like about this show. It makes you take a serious look at the past show, the good and the bad, if only for the ponies. Because there are so many ponies over the history of the show, it makes G4 all the better when you get past nuggets.
