I think we can all relate to this painting and have different interpretations. This is one way I could personally explain how my children have changed me, and my heart. The man is willing and giving his heart to his child. Notice that the heart is a mess, filled with fire, and the spider that's coming out of it, represents poison or toxins. The scars on the heart, is from things that he has encountered and how things hurt him, yet he is not afraid to give it to his child. The child holds a bandaid, (s)he is the one who has been sent to mend.
