I have to ask. What material is the outfit made of? It looks absolutely excellent.

Thanks

Cheers!
I responded to your note concerning this, but for the sake of your post:
The hood and mantle are of a velvetesque poly material. The outer surface resembling velvet.
The jerkin (or surcoat as you referred to it ) is the combination of a roughout leather vest with supple and thin black dyed leather hides. I purchased the roughout vest some years ago from Museum Replicas, and did some customising to it to make it fit more comfortably and to provide more freedom of movement.

As cool as it can be. Comparing this to the previous "Stalking Rogue" photo - it's nice to see more details. The bow looks better in this angle as well!

It's interesting how a sword makes this look historically, say, "formidable". Would there be a dagger or mallet it would give impression of more "regular" poacher or longbow man. Not every man could afford or was allowed to wield a sword during medieval times (that also looks like a bastard sword to me). "Heck, this dude is a private entrepreneur - I don't even want to guess what branch of business he's working in!" ... business model: robinhoodism?

Thank you, J!
In the borderlands, a Ranger may carry what he will. In Castleton, the Dark Ranger was given special royal license to walk the streets armed - so long as he kept his brand peace-tied and swore to quell any disturbance that should arise.
Ah! The benefits of not being part of a regular army!

Cool huh! This Davey 's got some medieval blood in him somewhere

The sword is a War sword, commonly and mistakenly named a longsword. The lengths of swords differed between smiths, customers and regions, so calling it 'long' is quite vague. War swords were the true fighting weapons, to be used one or two handed. Nothing ceremonial. A Bastard sword would have an even longer hilt and wider crossguard more akin to a Greatsword.

... never mind me rambling. I adore swords

A war sword, eh? I'm more used to a norman-styled sword which tend to have short grip. Easier to say the difference between that kind of sword and claymore for sure. I guess I'm lagging few centuries behind you two, haha.

Thank you for the lesson, those hand-and-half swords are really hard to distinguish. It's good to be lectured by a person who loves the subject, rather than by person who "typed & googled" faster than you .

I love me some early middle ages J. The Norman style blades are indeed (usually) one-handed and tend to be a bit shorter than the later war swords. But again, every smith had a different style, and every warrior had different arm-length

And thanks for the vote of confidence! Indeed I do not Google, I have my knowledge from books and a one-time workshop in Medieval sword fighting with a war sword, in which the two-handed technique was prevalent.

blablablajadijadi please ignore me mate
