We had to put down one of my rats last week. She was pretty old and had a huge tumor on her abdomen that was essentially sapping all her energy and putting pressure on her internal organs. She was a little ball of energy until the end, and definitely one of the sweetest rats we've had. But if there is an afterlife I hope she's there eating her weight in goldfish crackers. They were probably bad for her, but she loved them so very much.Related content

Something like that. ^^ Sadly I've kinda gotten used to it though. Rats don't live long (only about 2-2.5 years) And they live in groups. So if my math is correct I've had 14 over the last decade and lost 13 of them some way or another.

I mostly had guinea pigs. They can live quite long for such small rodents (about 6 to 10 years), but most of ours died early due to tumors or something like that. My oldest nearly reached the 8, and others barely reached the 6 or 7. I had...lemme count...around 8 which are dead now, and two more my mother still keeps for me. The biggest drama was when my first one died. I was nine at the time. And my guinea pig hadn't even hit the 8 months. It suddenly spazzed out while I held on to it, and I couldn't prevent it from falling down and breaking its neck.
It was about as much drama as when my favorite cat (belonging to a friend of the family) had to be put down when I was 6.

Wow...that's intense. I haven't had anything quite that bad happen to a rat. The closest thing to that was when one of them went into sudden respiratory distress last summer. We tried using my inhaler on it, but it was already too late. Though we also had one that just dropped dead out of the blue two days after his brother died. It was really weird. 0.0 The fact that I was 7 didn't help either.

Man...maybe that one rat couldn't stomach the death of his brother? It already happened often that animals died of heartbreak, so to say. Or it was a virus.

Maybe. I mean he seemed completely healthy when he died so I don't have any other explanation. Still weird though.

Everything sounds weird to me XD Just yesterday I was thinking of how weird blueberries are. But maybe this isn't as weird as blueberries. I dunno I'll do some research. Got nothing better to do today anyways.
