Description T.T the scanner totally ate my pretty colours and shading work *starts bawling*

Well other then that, this is a picture I did of Luke fon Fabre from Tales of the Abyss for the ~Flames-and-Asches contest. I really love how Luke's hair turned out and the sunset is REALLY pretty too.......but you probably can't tell now. Actually and I found out that if you look at it on a laptop and at an angle you can get some of the colours and shading to come back into it ^^ (random I know)

Awwwwww thanks

I totally agree that Luke should run away, but EVERYONE would notice sadly. Maybe he may need our help to spring him from his home prison

Your scanner actually didn't eat it too badly if you open the image up in something like Photoshop and optimize it.

And don't be afraid of Photoshop, it's just Paint on steroids. Start small and with the easier tools, and then work up. Remember that layers are your easiest way too try out lots of things without damaging what you've made before and you'll be just fine!

lol actually I did open the image up in photoshop after I scanned it and this was the best that I was able to restore. It was pretty crappy but oh well, I still like it.

Yeah once I get some time to actually mess around on photoshop then I'll practice with the many different tools, but right now I have a whole swarm of midterms coming up these next two weeks T.T

Thankies I'm glad you like it. I was actually pretty impressed with how well his positioning came out. There are still some problems with it, but for the most part I am satisfied.

ooooo his hair is so shiny!!!!! ~ and the wall isn't that bad. Its just a matter of more rocks - less mortar (and pestles!) - but still really good. Its a pity my scanner slobbered all over Luke. ^^' but he doesn't look to much worse for the wear. (I love the original more *sticks tongue out*)

Trystle In reply to ladynadiad [2007-09-15 04:34:57 +0000 UTC]

Yeah but I'm not even going to attempt to do it on photo shop. You have me beat any day. I'm sure that if I tried photoshop it would end up looking like a 2 year old drew it lol.

But thanks so much. I take it you like it?

Of course I like it!

And honestly, having skills in photoshop is just like being able to draw on paper, I am not very good at either yet, but photoshop gives me the advantage of scrapping my work if it's that bad, or undoing easily if a line comes out wrong. Plus I can zoom in on it way more than my eyes can on a paper (I am likely to only smudge things if I try to zoom in on a paper)

But I admit, the tablet helps for drawing, but learning sig making helped me learn how to play with photoshop (plus many hours rendering art for sigs gave me mouse skills).

Thats where I would like to get. To the point that I can manage photoshop. I actually got it loaded onto my computer today, but it frightens me cause I can't figure anything out on it.

I actually did find a neat book that isn't overly expensive, but is simple and easy to understand that helped me a lot with the jist of photoshop for artwork, since I knew all the pretty effects and such for sig-making, but jack about shading and such.

It's called "Digital Manga Workshop". It goes over everything from scanning in work to shading and coloring in many styles. There are also tutorials here that can help if you go hunting, but those are going to be more piecemeal on how to do a certain thing.

That actually helped a lot, as it explained shading and such in a way that even a dummy like me could understand.

Also, in the tales forums, go over to ToS fanart, there is a helpful thread there of resources. That and there are lots of people who know photoshop to some degree in the forums, just a matter of asking.

I assure you, I knew next to nothing when I got my copy of photoshop installed, that was back in April. Less than 6 months and I now feel pretty comfortable with it.

hmmmmm thats comforting to know. It's really intimidating right now. I'll probably start exploring it a little bit more once I get past my first swarm of exams. Right now I'm sort on a fair bit of time and sleep but I do plan on learning to use photoshop at somepoint.

I am sure once you have the time to play, you will learn lots.
