And no time to fulfill my silent promise of giving feedback after I stopped giving it. (I didn't feel my comments were giving out much. :I)
Sso to start with let's head back to the very beginning of the comic. During the reveal of the first egg. I feel had a good set up from the beginning, even if there was some minor controversy over the whole Wilson-Astrid thing. You paced out classic comedy with giving out the end result satisfyingly (to me at the least) with more mixture of the comedic value you always have, even after the reveal. Pages have stayed rather consistent too, since the beginning, with a few breaks here and there, but nothing to painfully long. You've also made it to where one of the most anticipated parts days of the week were when a new part came out.
As of now, the comic has certainly seen you improve in art, and setting. I especially love the atmosphere of this one, looks great. 
The infusion of Don't Starve and your original ideas is great, you mesh them pretty well, and I have no idea how this would have gone without the elements from DS. But you do say it will lead off to more of it's own thing, which is really exciting. I for one, can't wait to see how everything turns out.
Your writing has definitely grown, too, seeing as you're taking in historical event's, even if only for a short period of time as of yet. I don't know if the Great Depression will come back up, and have more of a role on the story or not, but it was interesting to see incorporated in the pages.
I'm not sure if there is going to be something like a secret antagonist that you haven't shown, or if the shadows creatures are the main "enemy". I do like how subtle it is when you progress the story. But a few hints and pictures is enough to get one hooked in the approaching story.
Another great thing, motherly like Astrid, she's a great character full of humor, but she feels like a legitimate mother in this, making her seem a tad more serious then she had in the previous comic, but still have gives the viewers an average dose of Astrid laughter. Great and completely amazing to the story, I don't know what will happen to her after the comic is over seeing as she's mainly become more part of the DS universe over the years.
Wilson was done nicely, of all the personalities I've seen of him this one was amazing, you make him seem like a person who takes everything he does seriously even if it shouldn't be. Plus the constant reminders "for science" and "science" period is great.
On to this page It makes me wonder what will happen next, and just how merciless the world will or won't become for the characters who live in it.
You've done a great build up to this point, and this page gives off a vibe the rest of the comic hasn't. Still I can't help but feel that the next time we see them it will be a huge prank on Axel and Waylon and the tentacle laugh at him harshly. <3

Well when he is partialy human, and when humans cry the eyes tend to pump more blood thus exposing the vains.
Ether that or the shadow bolt may also affected waylon's eyes.
