Description Gah! I've been gone over a whole week!!! I feel like I am just falling apart... Well, I do have some colored drawings I was supposed to finish, but school just slammed me in the face with actual work to do so I've been pretty busy... Plus side is that I am bringing some of my colored pencils to work, so I'll get more time for that (yay).

Everyone and their mother has been asking for an Asuka drawing, and I had no way of saying no... So here she is! It's a little rushed and quite rough, but I guess it will have to do for now! I do plan on making more of her though so don't hate me for being a Rei fan XD.

Aaaanyways, thanks for waiting, I'll be back in business (figuratively) soon!

Here's the link to the reference I used for this sketch: fc01.deviantart.net/fs71/i/201…

I do not own Neon Genesis Evangelion, Asuka Langley Soryu, or any related material.

what she's trying to say is that, tracing art should stay to yourself. You should brag about it, showing it to people and art site to get compliment. you didn't do anything, everyone can trace or eye balling it like you said. It's good for practice but keep it to yourself. People would 10x more appreciate crappy original art then perfectly copied art.

Hidden people just proove you want to be praise for a work you don't deserve.

AaragonNega In reply to Odow [2014-04-04 19:11:54 +0000 UTC]

I hear you completely... I don't trace though, and I'm certainly not looking for undue praise on something...

I've posted original stuff before, and I keep working on additional work like that for the future...

I'm really sorry if somehow the point was driven across that I'm trying to get credit or fake appreciation for something...

I don't know what more to say... No ones ever confronted me on this... I could see if I said "I made this" or I said no one can copy this...

The point I'm getting to is I'm sorry that this is offending you...That wasn't my aim, nor something I even expected to occur...

Odow In reply to AaragonNega [2014-04-04 20:18:42 +0000 UTC]

You'll just grow faster and better as and artist if you complete stop doing this. No one became a good drawer that way. You'll just get better at copying, and when you'll try to do original they will look aweful, so all the ego you receive from all those year of tracing will force you to keep on tracing because no one like your original art

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AaragonNega In reply to Odow [2014-04-04 20:24:49 +0000 UTC]

This is true. The part I don't share on here is the original stuff I make, and you're right, my personal art doesn't compare with the art that professionals make.

This has been a point I've been pushing myself towards for months now... I can easily say I, more than anyone, want to post my original stuff here.

What I'm saying is you're right, and I've known this for a long time. I completely agree and I've been working to get my stuff out there for some time...

If nothing else, words like yours help keep me going to progress towards that for which I am quite grateful...

Odow In reply to AaragonNega [2014-04-04 20:30:53 +0000 UTC]

You should just completely delete all the eye balling stuff, and send your original, even if it's not damn awesome. This is an art community, thousand of people will gladly gave you advice, you'll find tones of tutorial, many beginner art groups etc. => walkthrough-rookie.deviantart.… But you'll never find an artist that will respect you for that kind of stole art. Evne if it's eyeball, people just don'T care it's the same as tracing it doesn't deserve any credit.

AaragonNega In reply to Odow [2014-04-04 20:34:27 +0000 UTC]

Fair enough. Like I said, I've gone this far without even a mention of it, so I had no idea that there was such hostility to learning in this manner... I did join the group though, so if you watch it you can see some of the stuff I submit there...

Pajaga In reply to AaragonNega [2014-04-05 01:47:34 +0000 UTC]

If it makes you feel any better I learned the same way, and even though it has its downsides it still has some positive things to pull out of it. Such as line quality and shading, so I would say its a waste. Also being able to replicate things is a good thing sometimes, especially once you start doing life drawing. After all most art is an imitation of nature so if your an artist then replication (or copying) does become a big part of learning later on. So even though Odow is right that copying does have its downfalls when it comes to jumping into making original compositions, that doesn't mean that it is all done in vain. You're still an awesome artist, keep up the good work!

Cheers,

That's probably the healthiest approach to this sort of thing I've heard... I really appreciate your feedback, especially the support!

Pajaga In reply to AaragonNega [2014-04-05 05:01:42 +0000 UTC]

No problem!

Oh and I re-read what I wrote and I noticed that I said "so I would say its a waste." Β what I meant to say was " so I wouldn't say its a waste." Β Funny how two letters can make a that much of a difference! x) Β I definitely don't think its a waste, its just simply a different way of approaching art! Β
Β  And I'm not trying to prove anyone wrong, there a tons of other ways to approach drawing that work out just as good in the long run. I'd just thought I'd share my opinion since I went through almost the exact same thing!Β
Β
Any-who, I'm glad to hear you appreciate my input! Β

Cheers,

didnt you just trace this, because i used to trace and it would look like this

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AaragonNega In reply to asta-roth [2014-04-04 18:28:22 +0000 UTC]

Nope! I just used the reference picture and pretty much eye balled it from there... Can't really trace on sketch paper XD

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

asta-roth In reply to AaragonNega [2014-04-04 18:54:37 +0000 UTC]

well it still counts as copying/stealing art even if you're just "eye balling" it :/

people have done this to my art in the past so i don't take lightly to seeing art like this get popular when people who actually spend a long time working on an art style get thrown under the bus

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AaragonNega In reply to asta-roth [2014-04-04 18:58:06 +0000 UTC]

Not necessarily... Copying or stealing it means you are taking credit for yourself and claiming it as your own.

Not only did I provide the reference, but I also stated numerous times that I don't own this in any way...

Does that help clarify things a bit more?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

asta-roth In reply to AaragonNega [2014-04-04 20:05:05 +0000 UTC]

but you ARE taking credit for it by saying "its a reference"

i used to trace all the time, and i didnt "give credit", i got called out on it all the time so i started developing my own art style.

i see you on reddit getting countless praise for something you traced (or "referenced", whatever) when people who actually spend time on something original get like 3 upvotes, its painful to watch, especially as someone going into art and animation school next year.

yeah how dare he go into people's houses and grab their hands and make them click on reddit links to a trace, and force them at gunpoint to praise him for it, and gouge out their eyes so they can't readΒ the extremely prominent declaration of it being a trace. he's a total monster
