Heh, yeah. meant to update this. A local vet ended up getting the little guy. Turns out, he already had one and has the perfect set up, plus has unrestricted access to any medications and other things the lizard will need. I think he called it a Black Roughnecked Monitor. He told me he'd keep me updated, but haven't heard in a couple weeks. I'll probably call this week and see how the lizard's doing.

I found out that he was actually a Black Roughneck Monitor. Both myself and the vet had gotten busy so I didn't find out about the lizard's status until just recently. The vet that got him said he did great for a month or so, had no problems, was gaining weight and then in the space of 24 hours, crashed bad and didn't make it. I know the vet and I'm sure he did everything he could, but it sounded like there was probably an underlying problem that he hadn't been able to catch. He said he wasn't sure what happened, but suspects there was a parasite infestation that suddenly overwhelmed the monitor's system. At least from what I understand, it was very quick.

Oh yeah, that's definitely a black tree monitor. I hope the shelter has a reptile expert or can contact one; these aren't easy to take care of. They need lots of space, too.

Working on contacting one who's local and can help make sure there's the correct habitat and information available. Thanks for the reply
