I've had a few people ask me to do a tutorial.In order to do glows myself I turned to yaoi-dealer [link] because I admire her artwork so much. But basically, credit to her for helping me along in my art and to be able to do art and glowing myself.

Good tutorial. I've been using sai for a while, but I was hoping someone could help me with something else. Luminosity and shade and all of the other options aren't working. I can select them, but they don't do anything. The brush works like normal. Why is it doing that and how can I fix it.

And yet in Sai2 it does not do that anymore. What replaced the effect because there is now a ton of effect layer types in Sai2.

This doesn't work at all for me. I tried selecting the color with the eyedropper and then using the airbrush on my luminosity layer, but the airbrush won't do anything.

This is such an incredibly poor and tacky "glow" 'tutorial', like damn that step 4 is hideous...Β but I guess at least it informs people of the luminosity layer mode?

Is there a way to do this with an older version? The version of SaiΒ I have doesn't have the luminosity mode

I get about the same effect on another layer using white airbrush tool that's large. Trick is right under your tools area beside the "set drawing mode", there are 4 small picture icons in black. 1st one looks like a blk thin hill, 2nd a wider hill, 3rd a flat marker tip, 4th a square. These are the "Edge shapes" to your drawing tools.
For the Air brush, select the 1st one, Max. size is larger, Min. size can be 0. Density is like Opaque setting. 100% is full color, and less makes it more transparent. White or a very light color with another layer of white over it gives a nice glow. I've gotten these results without luminosity:

Do you use any other tool like Blur? because those colors look more like they have been blurred...

The glow effects actually might be achieved using low opacity hard brushes like marker, but blur could be another.

When I have a glow over a transparent background in my PNG, the airbrush turns into white blobs D: HALP!
