Description Oil / Canvas
Realism is not a photographic copy of reality. An artist uses the illusion of reality to recreate their own reality. Eventually the idea (the concept) replaces reality itself. you do not paint what you see really, but what you think and feel about what you see. Copy a photo is totally mechanical, the technique replaces the feelings, leading us away from what a true artist can do. To understand this you just have to see the achievements of Rembrandt, Velazquez, Rubens, Titian, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, El Greco, Degas, Sargent, Sorolla, Daly, Picasso, Zorn, Freud, Nerdrum, and many more. They drew and painted their thoughts and feelings ....., without pictures or cameras!
