Judging by Lauras embarrassed expression I would say that perhaps Laura and Jimbo had been making out and Ruth walked in and caught Jimbo trying to grope her daughter, they get into a fight, Ruth won and looks at her daughter in disappointment

I agree with helled, it looks like Jimbo tried to convince Laura to get back with him, Laura refused and he didnβt want take no for an answer and Ruth stepped in to protect her daughter, leaving Laura feeling embarrassed that her mother had to even step in to do that.

First off, brilliant expressions. You are so good at visual storytelling that leaves things up to interpretation. It definitely looks like Mama Bear stepped in to tell off Jimbo, and now Laura (or is it Allison? She grew up stunning either way, and my confusion adds evidence to the sisters head-canon) looks ashamed that her mom even had to step in. That's mom's job, hon.

I'm just throwing this out there: Jimbo didn't accept the fact that Laura dumped him for Bart and tried forcefully to convince her to get back to him. Ruth heard them arguing and told him to get lost, but he refused, thus leading them to a scuffle, which she apparently won. But she ended up bruised, nonetheless, and now Laura is frantically looking for help.

Or perhaps Laura is nervous, and she is about to be told off by her mom for dating a lowlife like Jimbo.
"I put food on the table for you, I pay for your books, I pay for your nice dress," Ruth said, her disappointment growing with every word," an you thank me by bringing a lowlife into your life?!"
"I thought he was hot," Laura protested weakly.

That's a good point.
I guess Laura feels like a fool for having brought a creature like Jimbo into her life, who was not only a wuss, but as sadistic and cruel as her worthless father.Β
