Perhaps Laura was bullied by some high school jerk who also insulted Ruth.Β

Anyways, this picture is so real and emotional.Β

Love seeing these two interact together! Whatever just happened to them, it looks emotional. Maybe it's something to do with Ruth's ex; maybe he decided he wants custody of Laura?

I miss Ruth and Laura. We only catch glimpses of them (like in the movie)

It looks like mutual comfort after a terrifying experience, with Ruth being protective too. Really powerful!

Maybe they're upset that the writers on the show didn't give them more to do.Β Β

For sure!!! I'm sick of one-time celebrity appearances. I'd so watch more Ruth-Laura eps.

Maybe she hasn't seen her mother in a long while and they're just happy to be back together. Or something like that. I like the emotion involved though.

It horrifies me to think what Max might have done to make Laura so upset. 😒
Beautiful scene between mother and daughter, excellent work!

If Ruth was willing to kill him, Max must have been something much worse than what she told Marge.

Agreed, it gives me chills just thinking about it. Makes you wonder what Laura’s words really meant when she told Marge β€œMy upbringing was painfully strict ma’am.” Gives it a more sinister undertone.

Agreed! I think Ruth was definitely the affectionate parent.

I agree 100% you can tell Ruth would do anything in the world for her. She would walk through fire πŸ”₯ for Laura and kill someone if they hurt her daughter . I truly believe that.

Me too! I like Marge to a point except for how judgmental she is regarding others, including her own children. Ruth doesn't strike me that way at all.

HotIceHilda2011 In reply to ABSimpsons [2018-08-14 19:01:11 +0000 UTC]

Same! I like Marge too, but I agree she is judgmental when it comes to people and especially her family. I always rationalized the reason for this was because her family was often critical of her, her ideas and the people she hung out with, particularly Homer when they were dating and finally got married.

She always looked at this as a normal thing and cast that same behavior on others in Springfield and especially her family. I think Marge just wants to be accepted and fit in but doesn’t know quite how to do that or how to make friends and when her family doesn’t act right she becomes embarrassed and behaves rashly the way she does.

Maybe this is thinking too much into it but that is the way I always viewed Marge as a character.

Oh for sure. That's why more Ruth-Marge eps need to happen. Ruth is definitely more free-spirited and can attempt to help Marge see things in a new light. In turn, Marge can pull Ruth out of her shell.

HotIceHilda2011 In reply to ABSimpsons [2018-08-14 19:26:06 +0000 UTC]

Yes! I agree I can totally see Ruth as free spirit, I can imagine her as kinda a hippie in the 1960s during the Vietnam era, protesting it etc. where as Marge where she as part of the whole love and peace movement too she was also a conformist and did not like to do anything to stir up trouble with people.

They could learn a lot from one another and compliment each other well when together. Thats why Marge on the Lam is one of my favorite episodes because Ruth manages to bring out a side of Marge that she represses often because she plays the role of wife and mother.

I agree; as someone who was forced to be this "good kid" and from family who held unattainable standards for me, characters like Ruth were very important reminders for me, that I didn't have to worry about conforming.Β

Ruth is an awesome character, I love her so much! And I also find her also inspiring and I think the reason for that is I have always been drawn to characters with strong personalities and I think that’s why I like both her and Laura so much because they are strong characters.

Could be that Laura was forced to spend the weekend with Max (simply because he has some right of custody), and now she's back with Ruth again Β
Lovely drawing by the way, so much warmth in Ruth's facial expression Β

Thanks! If Ruth was willing to shoot him despite saying she'd never do that to someone else, Max must have been a real monster.
