Description All refs: accidental-elemental.deviantar…

Another double-refsheet for these erm... LOVELY boys! It's about time I got them up here! Their refs were sitting around mostly-finished for ages (hence why the watermark still says '2017' on it. These were mostly made then. xP )

Again, any otherwise-unmentioned names which appear on the refs (like Crematia, Sear) just means that these characters haven't been introduced yet. You'll meet them eventually.

Swelter's eyes looks like Kushala Daora eyes from Monster Hunter

Well, I'll have to take your word for that one.

Are these two gonna have a more prominent role in the story instead of just, "Hello children, do you want to see what hell looks like?"

We shall have to see, won't we?

Oh, so Seethe has mommy issues? That explains a lot! They say Hitler had mommy issues...lol not saying Seethe will lead the biggest, evilest genocide ever, but yeah, mommy issues often translate to villany.

Swelter though, there has to be a reason he's the way he is. Maybe his parents were super strict on him and valued strength and loyalty to their tribe over anything else?

Accidental-Elemental In reply to RubyDragonCat [2018-01-07 00:26:34 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, he does. x'D Poor fellow. Crematia (who will be introduced in the story later on) doesn't have anything against Seethe whatsoever, but she's pretty absent. She's got a number of children and she's not really an active mother to any of them.

As for Swelter, I'm sure there's a reason. Either it's his upbringing like you suggested, or he's got some psychopathic personality disorder, or both. I haven't looked into him as deeply yet.

RubyDragonCat In reply to Accidental-Elemental [2018-01-07 01:51:33 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I got that she's that way. Probably cares more about her multiple boyfriends. Is her name based on like, cremation? As in burning a dead body and putting the ashes in an urn?

It'd be interesting if he had a personality disorder! You don't see stuff like that often on non humanoid characters.

Accidental-Elemental In reply to RubyDragonCat [2018-01-07 04:09:12 +0000 UTC]

Yes, her name is based on cremation. She and her own mother Conflagra are the only two dergins in modern Merrytune that I know so far who have taken a fire/heat word and made it sound more 'name-like'. xD All the others just kind of use the raw form of the word like 'Scorch' or indeed, 'Cremate' or 'Conflagrate'.

He probably does have a disorder. Who knows what else I may find with a little digging but that seems like the most plausible explanation for him insofar.

I forgot to ask before, but I noticed that you made the dragons of this rebooted version of Accidental Elemental plantigrade instead of digitigrade. What was the inspiration for that?

Accidental-Elemental In reply to Bluedramon [2018-01-07 00:19:20 +0000 UTC]

I dunno. I guess it just makes them look more 'lizardy'. Also, I can't explain how, but it seems to add a certain innocence to their designs, as though it helps them look more like storybook-dragons somehow.

Bluedramon In reply to Accidental-Elemental [2018-01-07 00:38:59 +0000 UTC]

Ah I see. Yes they're pretty much big lizards, aren't they?

How fast do you imagine a fully grown Felsic and Mafic being able to go?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Accidental-Elemental In reply to Bluedramon [2018-01-07 04:14:58 +0000 UTC]

Yiss they are. Plus you don't seem to find many plantigrade dergs around here these days, so maybe I just wanted to do something different? I dunno.

Fast, you mean, on the ground? Well, assuming you meant running (since we were talking about feet, lol) I think they can probably sprint fairly enough (in which case they might go more digitigrade temporarily just for speed), but I don't know about their running endurance. They're more built for the air... I mean have you seen how huge their wings are? I imagine those wings also probably create air-resistance when they're running, even as they try to fold them in.

Oh awesome, great to see ref of these two bullies. I like how Seethe is like the typical bullie that has a shitty family, that adds realism to his personality. Swelter is quite creepy. XD

I actually feel bad for Seethe when I contemplate his situation. In scenes that have played in my head, I've seen him be really sad. And yeah Swelter's pretty creepy. I haven't seen as much of his background yet.

I wonder... If they got personal ref sheets, does that mean that they are semi-important to the plot? The plot thickens.
Also, just because of the look that Seethe gave off on the last page, I love him, haha!

Accidental-Elemental In reply to zhidkovv [2018-01-05 21:52:25 +0000 UTC]

Characters are subject to receiving a personal ref if they are speaking roles and also have names, and also do move the plot forward in some way (in these guys' case, the prologue wouldn't be happening without them And they maaaaaay appear again later but you heard nuthin' from me. )

Haha, you mean the Silly Sideways Head-Lean of Ultimate Condescension? Was difficult to draw, but I'm glad it provided you with glee.

zhidkovv In reply to Accidental-Elemental [2018-01-05 22:08:59 +0000 UTC]

Of course, a definitive answer that is not so definitive, haha! Fine, I shall wait then.
Yes, that head-lean had a very profound effect, and it came out just the way it was supposed to, since it clearly and naturally shows the "do you see this idiot" thought running through Seethe's mind. Very well done *clap, clap.*

I find it interesting so far how most of the dragons have heat related names, but the Felsic have more pertaining to dry heat whereas the Mafic have more involving moisture. It's an interesting little dynamic between the two.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Accidental-Elemental In reply to MaskedDragonLin [2018-01-05 21:48:58 +0000 UTC]

Oh that's kind of funny... I hadn't really noticed! Felsics so far are Parch, Scorch, Coal, Char, Spark (pretty darn dry, especially Parch ) and Mafics (and semi-Mafics ) are Scald, Seethe, Swelter. More steamy, yes. I think it's a coincidence but that IS still a neat observation.

I've tried to make most characters "more" than in the old version, generally speaking.
