Description A scene which might have taken place off the coast of South Carolina sometime during the Chattian about 25 million years ago. The world was very different back then. The age of mammals was in full swing, but the dinosaurs, although no longer playing center stage, still managed to display remnants of their former majesty. One such display can be found in the prehistoric sea-bird Pelagornis. A massive avian predator which filled a similar niche to Gannets and the Albatross, however this bird grew to have a wingspan of over 20 feet. This was perhaps the largest bird ever to take to the wing...

I recently took a fossil hunting trip out to the coast and observed Pelicans and other waterfowl and couldn't help but wonder what it must have been like to see these giant birds soaring over the sea. So I decided to do this quick painting of what I imagine the habitat of this great bird must have been like. Thanks for having a look. Sorry for not posting very often but school this quarter has been crazy and I just haven't had time for anything else. BTW Happy International Dinosaur Day!!
