EDIT: Re-painted his face because it's been bothering me since I first posted it.Sorry sorry sorry orz, I haven't posted in so long, but I have been so busy, I forgot about planning my birthday and I still need to find somewhere to live in Norwich before university starts. But anyway, seriously, sorry guys ;-; More art soon!
So yes, this is Fritz, my watchers may recognise him <3 Finally finished. This was part of a larger picture but when I cropped it down I liked it a lot more, and it became practice for me to try to get this painterly style which I've been trying for for a while now.
This is the direction I want to go, I want to stop relying on lines so much and just use colour and shadows, but it's difficult. We'll see how it goes : ) So far I'm quite pleased with this, especially his eye <3

Woahh I like this- the coloring is beautiful, not to mention that your use of layers is evident and creates a translucent look, that is both fascinating to view and creates depth in the tentacles protruding out. The coloring on the body, with the use of purple and salmon pink as your main shadows creates a fresh look on the body - sometimes people just use saturated colors and that can take the life out of the face - where as here you've accented these areas instead of hiding them. Lastly the direction you're going with here, with thinner lines, is good for using less lines. As in watercolor, and no doubt you know, less lineart means more dependence on the colors and shading to create form, which you have done so with most noticeably the nose. You're doing great, and I would definitely continue on with the techniques you've learned. I would also recommend that you expand on using different colors of line like that in defining the lips. Since you would stop wanting to rely on lines, lighter lines will help that goal.

I have to wonder now what bit of Fritz you're refering too o 3o Ahh, I can't think of how to reply to most of this with anything other than thank yous. I was going to re-do bits of this picture so I could sell it as a print in October, areas like his mouth, bottom of his nose, hair and shoulders, so this crit has really helped! Thankkksss! <3

I would definitely say that your art skills have improved most impressively since I met you. I realize that's not the specific critique you wanted, but still! Been watching you for quite a few years now and seen you work out your skills.

The softness of the lines looks absolutely spectacular, and the variety of values is really stunning. The colors you chose UNF I could stare at them all day, plus the gradient shading is so lovely. TuT How do you do it?!?
The single eye peeking out is really captivating too, awesome composition. fff
