well you can have that now with humans... but the children and what genes pass on thats the difficult part...

you can always use a virus to introduce the mutation... extra DNA strain... and never forget a marker... to be sure if that gene is being passed on... I always wondered at Biotech classes if you could make a virus that messed up with sperm or eggs DNA... but the professor avoided further discussion than the phrase "that wont be of our concern at the exams"
If their gender can change... then there is not much assurance the Y gene of his dad is passed on to him untouched by the "non-lab-rat mother"
