Description Upper Antelope Canyon, outside of Page, AZ

This is one of the few slot canyons that survived being flooded by Lake Powell and the Glen Canyon Dam, and is probably the most famous slot canyon in the world.
Upper Antelope can only be reached on a guided Navajo tour, due to a flash flood that took the lives of 12 tourists in 1997. It is narrow at the top and widens as it descends. This allows the little bit of sun that gets in to bounce around all the curves and lines in the walls. It is this reflected light that makes the canyon come alive with glowing reds and oranges, and also allows sunbeams to come in, Antelope Canyon's most famous feature.

My guide, Chief Ray Tsosie, was one of the nicest people you could hope to meet. He knew all the photo spots by heart, and was an incredible help in getting the shots that I got. He brought his flutes, and played into a special alcove deep in the Canyon. The music filled the canyon like liquid gold, and it was one of the most peaceful, beautiful things I have experienced...

A portrait of light, I'd say. I like how the burnt dot does not invade the whole picture.
You're a master of light and composition, I see.

Thank you so much for your kind words. If You ever have the chance, and have never been before (and even if you have), I would highly encourage you to visit Antelope Canyon. It is just one of the most indescribably beautiful places in the world.

Oh well... I would need to save years to go there someday, but I feel some satisfaction already from seeing other people's visions.

What gorgeous colors and the sound really must have been haunting! Nature is truly amazing. How fortunate you are. This is almost a whole continent away for me, wonderful to travel if only on a screen.

You too are on the east coast? We have lovely scenery here as well. I highly recommend the High Peaks area of New York in the vicinity of Lake Placid and Keene.

I've been around that area, it is incredibly beautiful. I'm a New England resident myself, so we have our nice shore scenes and fall foliage. It is so pretty around here, it is just nice to see some other stuff now and then.

Ah...if only life was so simple. But your work has allowed me to live vicariously for now. Mainly I envy witnessing the vibrations of light and sound through the canyons...soon.
