Some time ago, I got the idea to draw a bunch of Transformers as arthropods. And only now am I getting around to actually drawing some of them.
Originally I was going to have Cyclonus be a wasp of some kind. But when I got around to actually trying to draw something that resembled him in ways besides the color, I found I couldn’t really do it. And then I got the idea to use an Idolomantisinstead. The shape worked much better, and I got to play with the eye marbling to pull off the sunken eye sockets with red eyes. I also have more practice drawing flower mantises than I do with wasps so I didn’t have to learn how to draw an entirely new insect.
Tailgate has always been a jumping spider. Probably one of the slightly fluffy ones. Unlike my history with mantids, I have no practice drawing jumping spiders. So lots of vague shapes rather than anything nice and defined.
I have another sketch of these two in the works, and many other bug/arthropod assignments for other MTMTE characters. The question now is, will I find motivation to actually draw the others? idk.
