Anyone remember Salem? I think I drew him a few times but I don't remember which pieces I uploaded and which I just let sit around. I almost submitted this back when I drew it almost a year ago, but I didn't because at the time I was still having trouble with drawing Sawyer and finalizing his design, and he ruined the whole image.

Anyways. I decided Salem's a male, and not androgynous like he was when I originally designed him.

Salem runs an apothecary, along with Lamellae and Icharou. Salem does all the brewing of medicines and keeping ingredients in stock. And as he owns the building and the plot out back, he's technically the boss. Icharou's lamp sits on the front counter, next to a hand bell and a sign that reads 'for service ring bell'. When someone rings the bell, Icharou comes out of his lamp and deals with the customer - from taking down orders to recommending different types of medicines, or offering other types of medical advice. Anything that is ordered that needs to be prepared and picked up later, is written down on a slip of paper and kept in a small file cabinet until it's ready to be picked up - in which case, it's tacked to the medicine's container and kept in a separate, locked cabinet just under the front counter.

Lamellae is somewhere between an employee and a sort of greeter - you could say her status has reached something like an unofficial mascot. She's usually wandering a small network of cat-paths put up along the shelves, and greets people as they enter the store, asking if they need any help. If that is the case she'll either try to find what they need, or direct them to Icharou. And when she's not in the store, she's out back 'tending' to the plants, mushrooms, and various other items grown in the garden, which also doubles as her home - she 'lives' in a modified, waterproofed, wood-burning stove that sits up against the back of the building in the corner of one of the garden plots, and the chimney is modified so that it has a tiny, crude-yet-functional spiral staircase-like structure inside, and then at one point it curves and leads directly to the inside of the actual apothecary building. A good portion of the reason Salem's apothecary is so popular is because many people think Lamellae is the most adorable thing in the world, and if it weren't for her and her charm there would likely be less activity.

Unrelated to the business, Salem will sometimes pack Lamellae around with him during outings. Hence the illustration there of her sitting in his hands. And then I took that sketch and made it into this for fun.
