Thanks for the comment, I think I got the replies to "leopard portrait" and "winter tiger" mixed. Glad you life them both, I like your portrait gallery, first class work.

Thanks, if you are trying to exactly copy a background it would take a long time, but I invent a background that maybe simular {or not } to a reference, and it usually comes together rather quickly. I generaly use black gesso as a base and put random foliage on in layers starting with darker muted colours for the background, less muted and lightening up as you get to the foreground. If something looks awkward, you can just bury it with more random foliage. A few overlaping twigs etc, in the foreground with a bit of detail on them, give it depth. The lower layers have little or no detail, just mix up some paint and go for it, complete freedom to throw on whatever you like, just let it evolve as you paint it.
