Is it sad, or is the guy just a joker? Maybe he wanted to see how many double-takes from passers-by he could garner!

Amazing how your pinhole device was able to catch this old blokes distant and shrunken memories. When he was in his prime, she was a gorgeous blonde and he owned an Indian motorcycle, Together, they were king and queen of the highway. Then one day, it was one more too many cheap motels for her, and he drove on, just like that. Now it's coach travel for the elderly and cranberry juice. Funny how time slips away. Only diminutive echoes of the past are left in its wake.
Aonther possible and less romantic reading of this shot would be this:
There's nothing creepy here. She's inflatable. Just wait till he had his rest and puts his mouth to the blowpipe. She'll be gloriously voluptous. And cranberry will be the least of all the juices running.
A very, very fine take, Doug. I wish I'd know the true story. Damn, you should have asked him. He would not have dared to refuse and giving a young bloke like you a bloody nose.

I did try to engage him in conversation but, alas, only got a few mumbles in reply.
Still, I'm sure I'll see him again while I'm patrolling the streets and I'll have another attempt!

Well, you know, he could feel it in his creaky bones that you meant to get aquainted with his easy-carry girlfriend, that's why he got tongue-tied. Jealousy is like a desease, and he's ridden with it.
I hope you see him again and get him talking. He sure should be worth a story or two. Just respect his lady. Pick a few flowers and bow. Such old-time manners should impress him sufficiently to shed some light on his obsession with a tiny PVC creature.
But it is to be feared that the true story is a heartbrakingly sad one. That little doll could have been the beloved toy of a beloved family member, passed away long before its due time.
