Very impelling piece. I find Warlord an interesting artwork with a thought-provoking subject: He sits in his lair, shrouded in darkness.
The cylindrical tubes in the background make a beautiful focal point. The glasswork has been done well and gives the impression of a cold, icy atmosphere containing the test subjects. I especially appreciate the leftmost tube; the lighting and shadow strike a perfect balance with the body inside.
Very good treatment of the lights and atmosphere in a low light setting - it's interesting how the slits of the eyes and the lights on his suit draw you into his figure, since the darkness does well to hide him.
There's a decent spectrum in color here, despite the muted scheme, you manipulated them well, tying the artwork together as a whole. The colors denote an intentional comic book awareness to the artwork, which works well with the subject matter.
I have a few points which I would like to address in critique, starting with the light source. There are several lights around the room, and while they are not bright/shiny lights, would mange to cast light of that color on objects, depending on their proximity. While that slightly happens in this picture, I think there needs to be a little more cast on the negative area of the Warlord's body; that way the eye is effectively drawn around the canvas.
You've already discussed sizing issues in your comments, and I would like to agree here; more texturing would be nice, especially in the skulls. This is partially about the size of the image you are working with since it is small and provides less of a workable area. There are ways to avoid this issue that Iām sure you are aware of now, since you've already explained that you just started working with this art program.
There is a monitor above the warlord ā at first I thought it was a window (I had to look at the original lines to make sure). This would be another source of light, despite the screen being dim, would still cast some light onto the warlord. Experimenting with a couple of light sources in real life would really help this effect. This would also lend into more texturing, since light reacts differently on certain surfaces.
In conclusion I would like to express my belief that this artwork is full of potential. The skill that already exists here can really be augmented by a couple of small improvements. I look forward to seeing this artwork in the future and how you resolve it.
