Description
Chase Hickory is the rival of Jay Sinclair developed by my friend Redstar404 for our Duel Academy story. He behaves a lot like a Pokémon rival to Jay and they develop a friendship where Chase fits the bill for the the "Lancer" archetype. His greatest strength is his tenacity, with the dedication to be the best he can be.
We imagine his voice to be that of Albedo from Ben 10: Alien Force and Ben 10: Ultimate Alien (Yuri Lowenthal).

Chase is similar to Jay in a lot of ways. He grew up in his Father’s shadow, and as a highly respected Academic Neurobiologist, Professor, and musical enthusiast, Chase had a lot to live up to. When he chose to spend his time dueling instead of studying, his Father was less than thrilled, straying from a safely “successful” trajectory. But where Jay’s Father shows warmth in letting his son go, this man became somewhat uninvolved with his son before he went off to Duel Academy, which left a hole in the lonely boy. A hole he would fill with a craving for power and dueling the strongest Duelists he could find. He did want to live up to his Father, but he wanted to do it his way. Upon arrival, his FIRE attributed deck gets him assigned to Ra Yellow, and he wastes no time in tracking down rare cards on site. He wants all the Sacred Beasts and Planet cards, which was a contributing factor to why he came to Canada to begin with. The previous year, three Egyptian deities, Exodia, the Wicked Avatar, three of the Planet cards, AND Uria the Lord of Searing Flames were all seen on Campus, not to mention the Red Overlady’s debut (now publicly known to have passed the torch to Ren). Such a lush variety of premium cards in one place; he would go treasure hunting AND get a shot at a prolific duelist to make a legend of himself by any means necessary.

Something worth mentioning is that Chase is unable to see Duel Spirits. Our cast would make one skeptical but it is true that most people can’t. Besides, Chase’s logically driven, analytical mind does not permit believing in magic. He would have to face reality when, through dueling, he gains a nasty series of scars along his left arm and torso, where the metaphysical became intimately tied to Duel Monsters and printed into his very skin.

Chase’s height is about 5’9, putting him in between Jay and Ren in height, and just below Jayce (Ren’s friend). He has icy, silvery blue eyes with newly dyed sleek platinum blond dyed hair (naturally brown), and most of the time has a black backpack strapped to his torso containing decks and other tools for that which he gets up to. He dons a standard Ra Yellow jacket, but he never wears it open, having a temperature sensitivity that makes him feel cold easily. Underneath it, he wears a gray short-sleeved shirt and black chinos, with gray and white Vans.

He does not play any one deck but at the beginning of the story he starts with a Flamvell and Laval deck that evolves. Hence, his monsters in this picture are Flamvell Firedog and Flamvell Baby.
Throughout the story and after its conclusion, he grows as a person, consequently evolving his deck too. He still uses largely Fire attributed cards, now focused on his new "Fire Kings," borrowing a lot from Ren as an agent of his change. His new ace is Fire King High Avatar Garunix (plus Sacred Fire King Garunix) and his new boss monster is Garunix Eternity, Hyang of the Fire Kings.
