Indeed, that was based directly on that ship. I had no idea what it was though - I was sure it's some kind of a toy or something.

I'm an original BSG nerd, so to explain the origin - as the refugee fleet was nearing closer to finding Earth they encountered a space shuttle with a young couple in suspended animation. The couple was fleeing the Eastern Alliance which was a fascist dictatorship. The EA was hunting the couple - I forget why exactly - but the EA sent that ship, which was called a "Stasi-class destroyer," to intercept the Galactica. The ship was a kitbash of Russian MIG airplane models, so it gave it a Cold War-era look. If you ever watched the original BSG series, a ship that looks very similar (having F15 Eagle or F14 Tomcat-looking air scoops on the sides) can be seen in the opening credits as one of the last ships to fly past the camera. I think they modified that model to make the EA destroyer.

I was gonna say that LOL! - the original "Space Nazi's" kitbashed beast of the old Battlestar Galactica series - although I think it was a cool looking ship. I was thinking of modelling that myself one day.
