Description Before Christmas I drew this pic of Impulse, focusing on shading and hair. And it was pretty good, considering Impulse!hair is a total pain to draw (butsopretty!!). Then it started calling for colour.

Since I'm still a total photoshop noob, and can't digitally colour a scan without killing the line art, I used textas. I coloured his hair and part of his suit, then my red texta dried out. And it's been sitting around for over three months waiting for me to finish it.

Coloured it with texta last night, and hated it. The pink I used for his face was ridiculously dark, the shading in his hair was gone, and the streaks from using textas taunted me. And I still hate his nose and cheekbone. So, I grabbed some white acrylic paint and experimented with highlights. Which didn't work out so good, as the texta ink leaked through and tinted the white paint. However, this did allow me to rub a light coat of white over his face, and lighten the skin tone. And I'm thinking the hair highlights probably look a bit more natural as a lighter brown, even though the layers and layers of paint required to lighten them do look odd.

In short, this pic is far from perfect, but I learnt a lot creating it.

... and now it's calling for a background...

That's awesome for texta!

I'd suggest to not put in a background, it is very easy for someone to over do something but if you really want to put one in I'd suggest once again doing it electronically so you can see what it does without destroying the original.

Also, trying to work around the sheer amount of texture and texta and wotnot is very, very intimidating. That, and I can't remember where I put it.
