Beautiful animals but nasty dispositions when they get to feeling "cock sure". I remember their spurs from childhood confrontations.
Great shot though.

That's the closest I've been to a rooster. Hens are lovely.

i like the wyandottes, they looks so pretty, cant live without my chooks, though im not too keen on the roosters not just the crowing, the hen bashing too, mean buggers. he's definatly a handsome fellow, must of been hot cos he face is a bit tired looking

I would love to have some chooks, but I have no one to care for them when I go away.

I was quite pleased when I saw this for the first time on the computer. And it was pure luck, the next moment he had put his head back in the cage.

Oh doh, I didn't see in the larger view that he had won first place. I miss the annual poultry show...it has been gone for several years due to fears of bird flu.

AdamsWife In reply to calzephyr [2009-03-07 22:50:40 +0000 UTC]

That is sad. It hasn't effected us in Australia yet.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

calzephyr In reply to AdamsWife [2009-03-08 00:11:00 +0000 UTC]

It is, I don't even think it's affected us here in Canada. To my knowledge there are smaller poultry shows still, but this big one is no more. It is such a shame, especially as I have such a great camera now. They also had pigeons, cavies and rabbits at the show.

I would love some chooks too, but I'm only allowed a dog. Love my Charlie (dog)
I have a list of animals I would like as pets if I were younger.

KarinZeller In reply to AdamsWife [2008-11-23 03:35:04 +0000 UTC]

Well, we had our fair share of pets. We used to live on a hobby farm, and at one time or another we had ponies, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, goats, geese, a pet raccoon, chipmunks, or whatever other creatures wandered onto your property. It was great to have pets, and especially when we were kids, but 'm all petted out now. I'm quite happy to be petless now. At this point I just don't want to committ to another animal. I'm rather enjoying being allowed to sleep in, and not having to step in dog poo (or having to pick it up).

Probably not a good idea for a chicken to draw too much attention to its self.

I noticed the hens were very quiet and behaving in a lady-like manner. Perhaps that is why.
