A Balinese tale

Although Begawan Sidi Mantra was ever so wise and powerful, but the same can't be said for his son Manik Angkeran, a gambler with debts up to his neck.

With Manik's promise to stop gambling and out of love for his son, with the help of the magic chime, the Begawan asks the mighty dragon Besukih for help. The dragon gave him some of his scales which turns into gold and jewels.

But greed got the better of Manik Angkeran and stole the magic chime to seek the dragon's treasure for himself. Upon seeing the big chunk of diamond on Naga Besukih's tale, Manik Angekran draws his knife and cut it. Rendering Naga Besukih roaring with raging fury.

Manik fled with satisfaction thinking that the big bulky dragon would never catch him. But little does he know, Naga Besukih is very powerful. The mighty dragon simply licks his foot step that was left behind, that instance Manik turns into dust.

Begawan Sidi Mantra was overcome with remorse and shame upon hearing this, he begged the dragon to bring back his beloved son to life. Naga Besukih agreed only if the Begawan can put his tail back. With the Begawan's magic, the diamond tail was reunited with the massive dragon's body, and with that Manik Angkeran was standing before his Father again, sobbing with remorse.

The Begawan thought that it would be a better if Manik stayed with Naga Besukih to learn about life and wisdom. So Sidi Mantra struck his staff to the ground and water bursting from the earth, overflowing, parting the land that was once one into two.

And thus, the isle of Bali was created.
