Description Walking with Prehistoric Beasts
Part 3
25 MYA
The Late Oligocene Period

Mammals have grown huge, and their mastery of the land is undisputed. The gigantic hornless Indricothere known as Paraceratherium is the largest land mammal ever, rivaling even the great sauropods in size. Smaller herbivores, like the grazer Calicotherium, eat the grass that is spreading throughout the world and replacing the ancient forests.

There are predators aplenty in this world. Small Cynodictis “Bear-Dogs”, ancestors of both their namesakes, prowl about, skirting the massive carnivore Hyaenodon. Immense pig relatives have also appeared, like the omnivorous Entelodont Archaeotherium.

Like the dinosaurs before them, mammals have taken over, and become the most spectacular and diverse group of animals on the planet.

My favorite thing about this one is the entelodont with his big mouth and massive teeth looking right at you with a death glare almost.  The way the indricothere's turned out too looks equally as impressive.
