Description I was working on this for a while and I finally scanned it. This is what I'm gonna call a terianthrope wolverine. I originally intended that he would be stalking an elk and sniffing the hoofprints in the snow, but, as I've only been in snow once in my life, I had/have no idea how to render it (any suggestions?) and it didn't come out well anyway. I plan to do a manip-painting with this like I did with one of my werewovles.

I haven't seen any anthromorphio/fantasy art from you in a while... This is indeed a refreshing nod back to some of the stuff you drew back yonder-when.

Marvelous work on the anatomy and fur, though the claws look a little awkward in this pic. I'm perfectly aware that Wolverines themselves have awkward claws, but something about this pic looks funny. Great work on the snow despite your announced lack of experience. Hghlights on the left arm look a little artificial/2D, it just seems to lack the depth the rest of the picture carries, and it irritates. I like the tufts of fur held together by little bands. It lends a cool look to the creature.

Overall, sweet stuff as usual. I can't help but feel it doesn't look completely wolverinish, perhaps it's the black pen, the enlongated midsection, or my personal bias, but it still looks somewhat wolfish.

true 'nuff 'bout the claws... I kinda wanted that one hand to be sitting above the snow like it was barely touching it and not really supporting any weight, but whatever... I'll hafta do it differently in the future.

And yer right about the wolfishness. I didn't get a chance to actually look at a wolverine while i was working on this and only really had the memory of their coloration and that they are sorta a cross between wolf and bear as far as their facial appearence goes, so that showed through more than i would have liked.

Thanks fer the analysis

Snow is crunchy and powdery. It can get dirty and it can melt in to patches of ice. Hmmm... I would draw it white and smooth on top, with deep, blue shadowed footprints sinking in to it. For example - in this photo it's crisp and smooth with well defined edges on the shadows, and very extended gradients in color:

(I hope you can see that.)
This is a good reference picture, too, because you can see what I meant about depressions and footprints.

I do hope that helps some, but I kinda like your picture the way it is.

thanks for the references... I suppose if i'd thought about it i would have figured out the whole blue shadows thing, but that is very helpful
