Description All going to plan, this is what I'll be doing before too long. Although hopefully I'll be less, erm, spherical. And bald. And angry.

I think this also serves as a sterling example of why I usually avoid drawing backgrounds. Pen, ink and toothbrush.

I love the background - looks like Seuss on...well, on more crack than usual. How did you block out the illustration when you did the toothbrush splatter (on this and the howling hermit one)?

Aw, thanks! Being compared to Dr Seuss on crack is just about the best compliment I've been paid all year (and I say that without a trace of sarcasm, truly!). I cheated with the splatter; I did a splatter gradient on a separate sheet of paper, then cut out the foreground with a scalpel and pasted it on. Crude but effective. Then I put my jet-black toothbrush back in the bathroom to freak out my mother

you could tell you mom that you've decided to bring back the Edo-era teeth blackening that Japanese women did for centuries. As a trend setter you need her emotional support until the fad takes off.

Indeed... after the end of civilisation as we know it (which should be any day now, if the earnest young christian handing out leaflets in the city is to be believed), aaaalll you digital artists will have to resort to airbrushing with toothbrushes! and INK!
