I've been in a funk lately [personal issues back home], when out of the blue, I thought of the Nautilus, an unusual species of undersea invertebrate en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nautilus , which is when I came up with this!

Taranias here actually has two alternate identities; in the context of Pacific Rim X Daikaiju Academy, this Kaiju is the design I dreamed up for the pre-existing name Taranias [mentioned in who of the Jaeger's dossiers]. In Pacific Rim: Broken Soul, he'll be called Maelstrom, inspired by the events of the Jules Verne novel 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea [I wanted Taranias to as much reference Captain Nemo's sub as the real-life creature he's based on!] He'd be a part of the second wave of Kaiju, one specially engineered to take on heavy combat Jaegers.

Both versions function the same, and are both Category IVs [for now on I'm refering to him as Taranias, because PRxDkA is technically much more developed than PRS... pr-bs, oh God, what an ironic abbreviation!] Obviously, he's armored as Hell! His body, though having an internal skeleton to provide structural support, is very flexible, and he can curl up into his armor like a pill bug; not very mobile, but his shell is nearly impenetrable... even tactical nukes would have a hard time breaching it! Those claws are actually used like clamps than blades, used to pin a Jaeger's limbs to their sides, as Taranias reaches forward with his split lower mandibles, which in conjunction with that overbite, works like a can opener, prying open the Conn Pod. Then those hideous tongues [kind of a combination of a 'bending' of Gullermo Del Toro's no tentacles rule in the design of Pacific Rim Kaiju, and also a tribute to the Tremors series!] snake into the hole to snatch his hapless victims!

He doesn't have bioluminescent markings, but I figure that instead, his entire soft body glows in the dark! [depends on how hard it is for me to pull that off in a more finalized drawing!] Hope everyone enjoys my newest, all time favorite OC Kaiju design!
