Previously | Start at the Beginning!

The sand was damp underfoot as Lucifer walked slowly across the beach. Waves pulled gently at his paws, and within them the eerily calm glow of algae was blue, like a ghost reminding him of something he had lost. It was quiet, finally, and it was all too familiar.
Lucifer looked up and around at swaying palm tree fronds and dark silhouettes of trees far off in the distance. A little farther and he'd see the Stump House's big black figure at the tip of the Staves Rest crescent, but his eyes stopped there on the trees and dropped to the sand beneath him. He stopped walking and waited for a couple moments, breathing in and out like the water as it moved.
This was all the same story, told over and over again. He grimaced; he was angry at them, at himself--at anyone, really. Those horrible faces, sneers made again and again, and all for what? He wondered why he even came to Staves Rest to begin with.
His thoughts lulled, and again he stared out at the Big Water. His eyes headed right for the horizon, where light met dark and it felt like anything might happen there. That far away, everything was still, like it was waiting for him...
Lucifer refocused on the sand in front of him and started walking again. He knew why he'd come here, and he didn't plan on leaving anytime soon.

With this, we finish the childhood segment of Lucifer's story!
  Ha ha, I'm super happy with everything I've been able to do with him so far, and I'm also super happy with how this picture turned out! I kept having the idea in my head to do this piece in a lineless style, and since this image has been in my mind for so long, it's super satisfying to see it complete and--what's more--done pretty successfully, too! I don't usually do lineless stuff where you trace underneath your sketch layer and fill out the shapes that way with more chunky sections of light and shadow, and when I did art similar to this it was when I drawing on middle school iPads and I just kind of winged it till my picture was complete. Seeing this done now is super nostalgic because of that, and I'm super happy with the bioluminescence in the water too! I pulled up a reference image to have more of an idea of what I was doing, and I think it looks great! All in all, super pleased with this!!
Now... What kind of mischief will Lucifer get into when he's a little older?
