It started off as a pure variation for the formula, but it was giving me a lot of grief, so I ran it through some parameter mutations and the image started to turn into this one. I noticed it had a space like feel to it, but I wanted a white background, so that kinda defeated the purpose of it. After working with it and looking at the white, I started to wonder what other dimensions would look like. Was light the same, would they have the same colors because of that, would there be energy instead of empty space. The idea of a black hole to another dimension slowly started to build, so that was the motivation behind the concept.

I love the way the spiral fades so smoothly and the background and gradient choice are perfect.

Thank you. I got those rings from this being mostly a disc variation. I was aiming for a pure disc, but couldn't get anything until I added a bit of sphere into it. This eventually jumped out at me and I knew a white background would make the image stand out more.

Great work, the black on the white background is a nice touch!

This is a pure example of what I try to do each time with apophysis and each time I fail. This is awesome man, great wall.

I guess that depends on which side you're looking from, no?

What's on the other side of a black hole?

That is freaking awesome, Jeff And you are probably right, what would be on the opposite side of a black hole but that of the exact opposite of what is on the other side. Everything would be inverted from what is on the other side. Suppose if our galaxy sits in the middle of a flux, such as can be found in that of many quarks, leaving for the possibilty of a black hole to form, or exist as it always did even though no on knew it ... the chance to venture across, or through, the black hole to the other side! Without being negated and destroyed, perhaps this is what we would see ... but better chances is that we would see nothing, becuase there would be nothing to "see" with our eyes, since everything is opposite from what our "eyes" our used to seeing! Of course, I do not buy into the "collapsing universe theory" by Hawkins. At least, not yet...
The details in the dark part are awesome, man!

Wow, haven't gotten such a deep comment since Tesla's Dream. You nailed a lot of what I was trying to accomplish with this image. I've always believed in alternate dimensions and ever since seeing sci fi movies when I was a kid, wondered about such things. Disney did a movie called The Black Hole a long time ago that specifically addressed a journey into one. Their version led to either a heaven or hell type reality, which was rather odd, but who knows. I think Hawkins is an idiot. Yeah, I said it, people can deal with that all they want, but a lot of his views are too far out there.
Yeah, I like the details of the black area the most also. Just a touch of red energy and a loop as energy is being converted. What made me stop on this one and leave it just this was was that strait line that shot out of the hole. Never seen that before in apophysis, but it really came along at the right time. Glad you liked this one so much. I'm working on another sci-fi image right now, but it might take a week to get it done.

There are a lot of faulty scientific theories that get credit as being "fact." I think people are too afraid of being ostrasized by the scientific community, or they are afraid of losing their funding if they speek out against the false precepts. A lot of universities get big funding and will look the other way if they think that will be jepardized over the data.
Can you imagine how advanced our space program could have been if all the people of the earth would just get along and abolish petty tarrifs and wars.

True about the funding in college universities.
The space program is starting to draw interest again. I think people will always find a way to prevent something from happening. I always think of Frost's poem "Mending Wall" the first lines speak volumes "Something there that doesn't love a wall" yet walls are built everyday ... out of fear, need, or any other human emotion perhaps even out of simple bonding ... but usually it is out of fear of what knew knowledge may be discovered.
