                                            Stereoscopic version

      Turntable animation       (requires red/cyan glasses)

        

As the every 28th, here's the ninth deviation in my collection of Disney Villains : The Horned King from 1985's classic animated feature "The Black Cauldron" . 

As usual, this is a rather simple sculpting job, I approach these characters as if I was sculpting a toy or a figurine, trying to remain true to the original design but with a little thing of my own too. Made in Sculptris, and (finally!) ZBrush, rendered in Keyshot and finished in Photoshop.

Another amazing fur texture. I think I might even like this one a little more than Cruella's since the colored highlights on each strand are so beautiful. Reminds me of structural colors in iridescent bird feathers. 

Do you think you'll ever make another try at Jareth's hair now?

Thank you very much This one looks better in that way indeed because the fibers are larger and further apart from each other, the colored lights enhance these too. I was really satisfied with this effect but for Cruella's coat's collar I couldn't do fur that looked as coarse as this. Funny that you mention feathers because I'm using the same effect, with much larger fibers, to make a feather collar for an upcoming character.

Jareth is precisely what I thought of when I began toying with this! I recently tried making human hair for a live action Disney character (in a similar way I did Angelinicent), but it was tricky, didn't work too well and I couldn't make it in time for the movie's gold anniversary But she's still in the works and I should finish her soon. And Jareth is definitely in my plans, but that hairdo is infernal I'll have to figure out how to split it in parts, according to the length and direction maybe. I'm in awe of that hairdo  Ludo might happen first, I think.

Thank you very much Yeah, it's a sort of an obscure movie. I think I didn't even hear about it at the time. But I really liked it when I finally discovered it, in the VHS era I think he's a great, underrated villain, and possibly the creepiest one of Disney's

I love what you did with the fur! Did you use some sort of trick to achieve that effect or did you actually have to sculpt all of that? o - o I'm really not an expert on sculpting at all, so this might seem like a silly question. So my apologies! haha

I love the lighting in this. Makes the piece all the more dramatic.

Thank you! I'm actually kind of proud of this I'm finally learning how to use some ZBrush tools, and this was made with Fibermesh, which is used to create realistic looking hair, fur, grass, rugs, even vines, noodles or whatever array or cluster of things you need that'd be crazy to put in place one by one You select the area where you want to grow it and you can choose from several kinds of different fibers with many customizable options each, then you can create it and you can reshape it and groom it with specific brushes, it's pretty neat and it'll allow me to do lots of things I couldn't do before  The Horned King's collar fur goes all the way down his back, it can't be seen here but in the 360° animation, and it contains over 24 thousand individual fibers Before making it with Fibermesh I had attempted to sculpt a fur-like texture on a solid shape, but it looked like catscratches
