When it comes to FEMALE clowns, I prefer the innocent, doll-like "Pierrot" clown with a pure white face. Think Queen Amidala from STAR WARS, but more, well, clown-like.

Back in the '80s there was a comedy/mystery film called HER ALIBI featuring the Czech actress Paulina Porizkova dressed as just this type of clown in one scene. Tom Selleck, who is also dressed as a clown (but the more goofy kind, with a red nose), is at the circus to protect her from Soviet agents (it makes sense if you watch the film); when he finds her just before the Soviets do, they go to kiss and make a honking sound when their noses touch! Funny AND romantic!
