So the pencil sketch part probably looks like the physical part.

I don't think I ever mentioned how much I like this one. It seems human, but is warped enough to make it quite mysterious. Was the background completely hand painted or was there a old paper texture hidden under there?

It is a bit of both, actually. The blue grunge is probably the most obvious one that I painted, but the overall noise is made from a paper-texture I overlaid over the whole picture.

I am rather interested of your drawing technique, and the idea of origins. It really caught my eyes and gave me a heavy impact of the vision. I could give you a detail critique if you like.

Okay! I am open to suggestions.
Drawing technique, I am still working on a process highlight, along with a .psd file to release it with.
Simply put, I start with just pencil and paper, and color it in Photoshop. I do not think that helps much, though.
As for the origin of the idea, I was just wondering what angels looked like. Did they look like people? I really did not think so... there were many things that I toyed around with. What if angels were really a completely different kind of being altogether?

Well, I rather like the "official" critique system. I can give you a month of subscription, if you allow. Otherwise, I will write it by comment.
I do have photoshop too, and currently upgraded. But the new strokes aren't too common for digital painting, still. So the coloring part is rather tricky to me. Honestly, I like your way coloring. Just not too figuring out what kind of lineart could use it with.
And idea. If you allow me to compare, I think your vision was much better than mine. Nobody would know what those foreign people would be, but the combination of the ancient, modern, futuristic or even aliens could created the standing out character, just like you did here. And more importantly, was the State of Grace. It's was hard to create such character with that attractive way.
It really impact my creativity, though. Thus I felt shame that never did figure your way of art here.

Okay, so I use CS4, it is not the newest anymore, but it works awesomely enough for me. I have no real use for fancy brushes and stuff, because I use the default, 100% hardness circular brush to fill in the lines.
I color by mouse, I have no tablet yet. So I just do brush-strokes in the general direction and orientation that I think looks best.
I also do, just to let you know, try new things almost every time I color. To play around and experiment with possible new techniques and stuff. Try new effects. Find out new ways of doing old styles. So the picture will grow by itself as I work on it.
Ya... I daydream a lot. It is where I get most of my ideas. And, of course, I have my own style of imagination and my own preferences of aesthetics. Everyone has their own likings and their own favorites.... so what is beautiful in my eyes is unique to me. I am also happy to hear that you find this idea to be attractive in a way as well.

Umm... I really felt that I wanted to concentrate on good works; I mean, before, I pretty much posted whatever I wanted on my dA, and some of it was not even really art... It was really messy and eventually, I decided it was distracting and removed non-essential content and sloppy sketches.
I just wanted to focus on my good arts.
