Description A rather unexpected boon- this started out simply as a practice sketch of my character, Aeralyn, not even worthy of posting, but to my surprise, it didn't take me long to do.

Though I must say, it's pretty uncharacteristically calm for her, especially with what we've been putting her through lately- her son being kidnapped, numerous plots to bump her of *coughs* again, killing gods and protecting the most powerful weapon that has ever existed in my best friend's campaign world (for you anime fans- think the ragna blade from The Slayers). Kick ass!

I'm also happy with this pic because it's more of a background than I'm used to doing, and I think it turned out pretty well. Yay!

Well Aeralyn was my very first Dungeons and Dragons character. She's a rogue/fighter that has become extremely powerful. She's done so many things in her adventures from the time that she was a little kid. She was orphaned at a young age and survived by stealing and running, but after she unexpectedly ran into the demon that killed her family, she started really training to avenge their deaths. She began traveling with a monk and fell in love with him and now they have 2 kids together, which sometimes end up mixed up in her dangerous lifestyle. She wanted to settle down, but with all the things she's done, the world won't let her retire. She's met and either befriended or made enemies of some of the most powerful creatures/people in the campaign world including some gods.

I'm currently working on her story, but since I've been playing Aeralyn for about 6 1/2 years now, there's just so much to write. I'm a bit overwhelmed with it. Slowly but surely I'm getting my stories of Aeralyn and my other characters in my gallery in order.

Thanks for taking an interest! I'm flattered!

Thank you Bro! It was actually a mistake that really made the picture for me- otherwise it was just going to be practice.

Instant fave!

Aeralesque In reply to S-Nightshade [2007-02-08 21:36:02 +0000 UTC]

O geez- the hair... It happened by accident really, but I think I remeber how...
Well, I had the first layer locked on her base color- a reddish orange, and then duplicated the layer to do shadows with the burn tool. Once I smudged the burns, I duplicated that layer to do highlights with the dodge tool- I did that a few times on seperate layers (just in case I ruined it and wanted to throw away the whole layer).
I think I had a total of 7 layers with highlights and shadows, and I accidentally changed the top highlight layer to "multiply" and it turned more red, so I did it to the next layer down too and got the effect I was going for in the first place!
On top of all that, I decided I wanted to piece the hair just a bit more, so I put single strands of red, black, and white and smoothed those.
Probably a bit more of an explaination than you were looking for, but that's how I did it. Sometimes a mistake is the best thing that can happen to a picture.

Thanks! Her hair reflects her personality and "herritage" (she's really witty, fiesty, and she's got the blood of a red dragon). Like I described, this is about as calm as she's ever looked!
I've got a couple of picks I'm working on her that portray her a bit more acurately. Hopefully I'll get them up in the next month or so!
