Little blue, moon-washed child, nestling safe in sleep and slumber while surrounded by glowing-soft angel's wings...warm and protected and full of comfort.

I like the textures, the brush strokes seemed to be done in free fashion, almost savage. I personally like the feathers, they give it almost a raw quality.
It made me think, how a person feeling anguish, in my darkest hour type of moment, can feel being helped by
a presence, or arrival of hope, which is the form of the angel. Some other part of me was thinking the central figure is just dying, and at that time feeling the embrace of an angel... an angel of death, perharps?

thank you for sharing your perceptions of this image with me!

i actually used my fingers for some of the strokes, and they were a bit savage i suppose. inspired by my connection to a song i was listening to...

Absolutely stunning... definitely more than what meets the eye, with what you've achieved in terms of amazing depth. Certainly made me look twice The hands, motions, and impending sense of gravity... all come together to evoke something truly thought provoking.

I can't critique because I don't have a premium membership, but I can do it here.

This piece is just beautiful. The imagery and sentiment are perfect. The only thing I think that is missing is I would like to see more color in the wings at the tips of the feathers. Not a lot, just a tinge of yellow maybe.
And also, it bugs me when an artist puts up a piece and has no comment at all. I want to know about the creation of it. It doesn't have to be long; just a little information about the name, the inspiration, what your mood was, ect. Little things like that greatly enhance my enjoyment of a piece.
Anyway, you're awesome and I love your work! Keep it up!

i choose not to comment on my own work because i like to ask people what my work says to them. art SHOULD be able to communicate without me having to say anything about it. i don't want to TELL you what i think it means... and I think that an image can have many different meanings to different people. i feel all of them are correct, just like songs speak to people in completely different ways.

so, what does this image say to you? by itself, without me influencing your interpretation.

thank you for your advanced aesthetic critique. i really appreciate the feedback!

Huh, I never thought of it that way. Maybe you could discuss briefly the technical aspects of your work then? That wouldn't give anything away.

The piece itself makes me feel sad at first, but then warm and comforted. I think it's ultimately an image of hope. No matter how far you fall, there is always somone there to pick you up. And sometimes it might not even be someone you know.

this is slick. I like the combination of the ornate feathers with the blood dripping from the terrestrial one. It's a good counterbalance.
It could mean anything, blood sacrificed to garner protection, a bloody corpse being taken to heaven, or a poor unruly subject being "taken care" of. And the beauty of this piece is that it's all and none at the same time...

on a side note and not directly related to this image, have you read your old testament recently? the ones on god's side are downright terrifying! angels of death murdering children in their sleep, warrior angels... reflecting the wrath of a jealous god.

and now back to the image... what do you think is happening in this image?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Discarn8 In reply to aeravi [2009-07-03 21:28:23 +0000 UTC]

I'm eclectically well read. This includes both cabbalistic lore and the Christian Old Testament, among many others. So yeah, I've read a wee bit about so-called 'angelic beings'. *wry grin*

I don't know what's going on in the image, beyond photons interact with my optic nerve that leads me to image something that allegedly was created by someone or something beyond my nerve's direct link. Not that I can trust my nerves - they fire when THEY want to, sometimes... tricksy lil things, they is.

That being said, and being a person more'n somewhat annoyed with religion in general, it reminds me of just that. Religion. The powers-that-be (as represented by the angel, of course) protecting the person by wrapping them up, insulating them from reality. This may be done to prevent the person from harm. It may be done to gain control of the person. It may be done to seperate the person from someone or something or some others. Mostly, it generally has 'interesting' secondary effects.

Ahem. My pardon, you hit a minor hot button. *wry grin* However, you DID ask!

Alternately, it's Warren Worthington III (from prior to meeting Apocalypse all up-close-and-personal) trying to assist someone Logan was mildly peeved with.

*grin* Pick yer choice(s).

If it were possible to imagine the angst and pain in Bacon transformed into serenity, the result might be a picture very like yours.

Your images are very resonant.

who is Bacon?

AlecBell In reply to aeravi [2009-07-03 08:39:24 +0000 UTC]

Francis Bacon was a British painter, who died in 1992. He used a surrealistic technique involving extreme distortion of the human figure, to portray powerful negative emotions.

(There's a good Wiki article on him)
