Description This is page 8 of my Jiman Entry, though I decided not to enter it this year.
I feel like I can do a lot better and there isn't much point entering with this level of skill.

But this is the last of eight pages, they'll all be uploaded in a gallery folder.
I hope you all like it!

Argh, I know how you feel

I didn't even try entering this year - I had no ideas whatsoever, and I didn't want any further distractions from my own comic, so I decided to give it a miss.

But well done anyway, it's a nice little comic ^^

Hows yours coming along?

I'm still trundling along, but updates are getting less frequent because I have so much A Level work to do But I'm still very much enjoying it, it's great fun and people seem to like it. It's stuff like that that keeps me going with it, I think.

yeah work gets in the way.. In an ideal world we'd be in a manga university, where manga is your work. ahh paradise
Its nice if you can say you draw for fun, but ideally you want people to like it don't you?

That would be my HEAVEN. *.*

yes, it's always nice when other people appreciate your work, but to be perfectly honest, I wouldn't mind if nobody read it. It makes me happy to be able to create something and I love doing it, and that's all that matters.

It'd be awesome for sure!

Darnit, I kinda wish I had your attitude- I want everyone to know and love my manga, and though I'm not very good I want to be a popular manga artist- fighting for manga popularity in Europe. I want it to be as big in Europe as it is in Asia.

I know, same here. I know it's a little disheartening if you don't get many followers or comments (I still don't), but at least they're not criticising it and telling you it's awful - and everybody has to start somewhere! Gathering up popularity and followers just takes time, and advertising - never be ashamed of plugging your own work on other sites like Facebook to get some extra interest.

Ultimately, I'd love it if I became a well-known name on the UK comics circuit, but I know that if I want that, I'll have to work very hard and be prepared to take the time ^^

I might have to start plugging work on facebook like you say! Yeah I'd prefer not getting attention to getting bad attention.

I like the idea of gathering followers, my group Generation Spark is set up to gather british artists together for that exact kind of thing. Its not doing anything at the moment because I don't think I'm good enough to request that of people. But if you wanted to be part of it you're more than welcome.

I have an artist page on Facebook; it's a great way of getting your artwork out to friends and family who wouldn't otherwise see it. It's just a case of covering as many bases as possible - you might find popularity where you least expect it!

I'd love to join, if you'd have me ^^

Thats pretty awesome!
I like the ingenuity!
My girlfriend used to do it but said her friends weren't bothered much and didn't even say anything about them which sucks, but some people just aren't into it.

Welcome aboard, I'll invite you as a something (I won't know what till I get there)
At this point GS (Generation Spark) is just hiring, I'd like at least ten British artists like us, a team of twelve sounds good.
You can upload pics if you want, but we only have 2 or 3 watchers atm. Them being me and my girlfriend -

I'll write a blog entry at some point about it!

P.S. If you know any other British artists could you forward them to me? ^_^

It works for me, I've managed to gain about 60 likes and quite a few close followers among my friends.

Awesome, thanks! Again, if you'd like a bit of publicity with the group I could post some info in a few places.

AerinBoy In reply to JammyScribbler [2011-10-29 22:42:32 +0000 UTC]

Thats awesome, I'm glad to see it worked!
Its great that you've found so many too.

As the group stands I'm leaving it out of the public eye because I'm still not 100% sure what I want to do with it.
But my goal is to release a bi-monthly or quarterly manga magazine with contributions from British authors, maybe even series.
So that's a target for sure.
Of course we'd need contributors who'd be willing to do said thing first.

Would you be interested in doing that? I mean if you had 3 or 4 months to draw a short chapter for something do you think you could juggle it with your usual stuff?

JammyScribbler In reply to AerinBoy [2011-10-29 22:44:58 +0000 UTC]

Oh wow, that sounds like a big challenge. The only danger I see with this is that it's very similar to Non Repro Magazine, which is quite similar...

But yes, if it does go ahead, I'd love to be able to contribute. I can't promise I can be a regular contributor in terms of comics, but I'd love to help in any way I can! ^^

AerinBoy In reply to JammyScribbler [2011-10-29 23:04:24 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I know, I have been thinking about this for a long time though.
And I see no reason why something like Non Repro and Generation Spark couldn't coexist.
I mean isn't friendly rivalry supposed to drive you to compete further?
I'm not saying I think I could do a better job, heck if I could make one magazine and do it right I'd be proud, Sephyrn's on her fifth volume of Repro now.
I just want more on the market, its easier to make it more popular if its not just one team doing it, if anything we owe it to the UK to make multiple types of manga compilations.
Sorry to rant.. T_T

Awesome, thanks soo much!
Just your contribution is more than enough!
Thanks- I'll send you an invite!

JammyScribbler In reply to AerinBoy [2011-10-29 23:08:07 +0000 UTC]

True, I don't see the harm in it. Plus, with different people working on different projects, we have a bigger range of skills and contacts. And it would definitely give the small press circuit in the UK a bit more publicity! i think it's very admirable to want to do something like that on behalf of the whole UK community, and I'd love to be a part of it.

Thank you! ^^

AerinBoy In reply to JammyScribbler [2011-10-29 23:14:12 +0000 UTC]

Exactly!
I'm glad someone understands now.
We artists need to work together right?
I sent the invite from GS, and like I said the group will likely remain dormant, and even when the group is assembled it won't be used as a standard group really- just as a means of communication and art uploading between the Sparks.

I wanted to ask you some questions though- I value your advice.
1. How many members should I aim for?
2. Do you think people will be interested (in both creating and if we attempt to sell it off?)

and you're welcome!

JammyScribbler In reply to AerinBoy [2011-10-29 23:17:44 +0000 UTC]

It depends on how big you want each issue to be, but I'd say you'd want at least half a dozen regular contributors to start with, but of course, the more the merrier!
And yes, if you advertise in the right places and attract the right people. This country's anime culture is bigger than you'd expect. Like I mentioned earlier the Internet is a fantastic marketing tool, and I'd recommend visiting the smaller regional anime conventions too.

AerinBoy In reply to JammyScribbler [2011-10-29 23:50:43 +0000 UTC]

yeah I was thinking around ten or twelve would be a good number so you could alternate artists deadlines.

I always wonder how hard it is to advertise and to get it out there, it's really not easy- there's no one place where every manga/anime fan goes to.
Then again every year at anime expo in london I'm amazed at the amount of people there.
The internet is awesome, but it makes me worry that printed media will be ignored over free digital media..
