The summer solstice is a magical time of year on Kauai. The sun sets at its northern most point and sends golden rays across the north coast. The Kalalau Overlook is one such spot. Often shrowded in clouds it can look like one big cloud or one of the greatest views on the planet. This day had a bit of both.Arriving a bit more than an hour before sunset the clouds moved in and out and as the sun got low the valley cleared in totality and the golden light shone in. The amount of color in the scene was overwhelming.
4 horizontal images (2 blended photos each), railing removed from bottom right...was standing on table to get better perspective.

Last time I was there it was perfectly clear; you could see the whitecaps in the ocean all the way to the horizon. Its one of those magical places on earth that are so breathtakingly beautiful it seems like it should be harder to get to, yet you have to do little more than open your car door and walk a few feet to get this view. You've captured it perfectly, well done!

This is just plain brilliant... June 21 is the new year for the indigenous people in Bolivia, so there's lots of celebrations and things like that. Although here it's the winter solstice

Fantastic shot. I love the blends of colors here. The blood of the water off to the distance is so pretty. The reflection of the sunlight on the mountains looks so warm and healing. The green grass and trees just frame the bottom of the image. Very nice.
