Megan: "The scouter and promoter in me ensured that I was always on the lookout for new talents and establishments. So when I heard about the latest gym to pop up in the scene, I was fully invested in its progression.

Zafire seemingly popped out of nowhere, but upon seeing Jade Huxley, one of its co-owners in action, I was immediately hooked. Her fight style was aggressive, yet calculated, and it seemed like her and Barret ran a tight ship in terms of how they operated their gym. She ensured that her students received the best training and coaching to prepare them not only for a fight on a mat or in a cage, but on the streets as well.

So imagine my elation when Jade and I engaged in conversation and she invited me to teach her students a seminar.

The class itself went without a hitch. Jade graciously offered to be my coaching partner as we went through some fundamental concepts in striking. One thing students often get lost in is the theatrics of doing the hardest hitting, flashiest looking moves, but often times those aren't the most effective. We also went through the importance of blocking/deflecting in ways to keep your opponent from following up by trying to remain on the outside of their striking range.

This was probably one of my favourite seminars I held in recent memory, as the students were very well engaged and lots of learning was had. I ended my seminar with a famous Bruce Lee quote: 'I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times.' as a reminder that fundamentals are key.

Thanking Jade and Barret for letting me teach their students, I reciprocated with an open invitation of my own: Jade and her peers are more than welcome to grace us with her presence in Fighting Angels at any point she likes."
