He looks gorgeous!! The background looks wonderful, and the main drawing of him is so handsome its hard to look away even when you have such a crazy background right there! (:
Can I ask you for advice? I went through a phase where I wanted to learn realism just to be able to draw Robert (LOL) but I just can't improve- how do you sketch him? With pencil or with colored pencil? And any advice? Do you start with the head or eyes first, etc? ;; Sorry for the bother!

Epic long answer about portraits etc. ahoy! Oh wow, that's actually a greaattt question.
Thanks so much
Cheese whiz, well you picked a tricky person to base realism on! I've had trouble with him from the start... he is the hardest person for me to draw EVER. O_o My epic travails with my previous attempt "Work in Progress" taught me that you gotta get the head shape right (make basic blocky shapes and then shape it out of that for sizing reasons), then secure the eye line before you do anything else, for portraits. Also, a big part of drawing Robert Downey Jr, at least for me, is determination.
But pieces of advice when drawing RDJ particularly: start with pencil - a lighter one preferably, 2H or lighter. With this guy, a huge part of making him look like he does is shadow placement. *shrugs* I don't know why, but the general sketch has never, and I've noticed this about misc. WIPs I've seen from others, looked like him. So don't get discouraged if it doesn't magically take on his likeness right away. Then I take care with his eyes, because they will either make or break him, so you'll really want to make sure you've got where the eyes are going, and getting their size right. His lips are very important too; they have a very distinct shape, especially his lower.
It really all depends on what era the picture is from too. Let me know if I can help out any more

In my opinion it sort of looks like Artis the Spoonman in this video.

Good drawing. I am a fellow Prismacolor artist myself. I appreciate your time and effort. Prismacolors are not to be taken lightly and I understand how rushing anything involving them is a bad idea.

I live in Utah. The winters can be pretty harsh, but my mom tells me it's nowhere near as bad as up in Idaho.

Where I live in California it just gets rainy and windy... cold, but not under 35 degrees. But other parts of CA that get snow, etc.
